Paint schemes - what would you do? With a 999R right side panel and nose cone suffering with gravel rash I have spent the week considering my options. So far they appear to be - [list=1][*]Replace the panels with new - cost £2K +[*]Paint back to original - cost £400 approx[*]Repaint complete bike as Fila or MotoGP rep - cost £900 approx[/list=1] I'm interested in what you guys would suggest. At the moment I'm leaning towards the rep jobby. Possibly not Fila or MotoGP as would consider other schemes if you have other ideas. |
Frankie Chilli rep - I know he doesn't use the 999 much (never) but the paint scheme is superb, as it is on his 998.:burn: |
Isn't that yellow though Steve...............:barfy: Some anonymous chap just sent me this suggestion.................... ![]() |
Back to standard. Cheaper, won't date like a race scheme and will maintain your resale price better. |

Hhhmmmmm - good point. |

Oh yes - you do need to want/like a Yellow bike and if it' red now, then any stone chips would look terrible. so maybe not a Chilli rep. Hello Dibble - you and your posts are missed:( |
Yep, standard is what I would go for. No disrespect to people with race rep paint jobs, but they always look a bit "wannabe" to my eyes. No problem with stickers and rep paint on trackday fairings, but on a road bike they look a bit OTT...not to say the biking equivalent of the 'Max Power' brigade |
Again..........good point Jools. That should have been my 4th point. With more track time coming up I could get the track kit painted out in rep colours and just have the original panels re-painted. Don't tell the wife though................more expense :(:( |
just dont ask AK!!!:o :lol::lol::lol: C Dibble - come baaaaccckkk:roll: |
As I`ve said Davd, I`m not a great fan of the Fila colours( back in my days at school Fila trainers were uncool), I would have gone for the GP colours, but whos to say that the GP colours won`t change next year, then you be left with last years colours. Also I would have been put off by the thought of painting over £2000 worth of carbon.:o I would say standard as you won`t be able to see that lovely carbon 999r lettering with a Rep respary. Why not do a Poll to help make your mind up [Edited on 6-8-2004 by Karl] |
Paint it YELLOW :burn: No sticker kits, just YELLOW  Seriously............paint it yell.............(:rodent: now stop it) Seriously, put her back to original. It will affect the resale etc, etc. The R is a special bike bike and it should stay as Ducati intended. Get some race bodywork and paint it whatever (YELLOW :sing: ) colour you want, but don't mess with the standard panels. You already know how much they would cost you to get back to original........ Neil, You in a :sing::sing::sing::sing: YELLOW mood today ;) :burn: |

Always David. :sing::sing::burn::sing::sing: you don't see many smiley avatars in red do you now ;) |

As if I see the point of going back to original Dave and if you got some trackday bodywork done at the same time it will probably be the most cost effective. I can get a price off my mate that races the Spiderman Aprilia. He is approved by the insurance companies, so works to a very good standard. |
Mate, get the std panel sorted back to std!! Buy a set of after market ones for your excurtions!!!!!! Have a look at pro twins. Speak to Brett, they are racing a super stock 999 this year. Did you get the piccies i sent? go for RED with white no boards front and rear, black belly pan. Wait and look at mine!! You can sticker it to your hearts content then!! Andy |
Dave, I'd strongly reccommend RED and white stripes with a few little SAFC logo's. In fact i'd make a contribution  |
just like this [Edited on 6-8-2004 by keefer] |

David only read the first post, not all the intermediate ones go Blooo, you know it makes sense mort |
Keep the road kit standard. For the track I like the look of black [Edited on 6-8-2004 by electricsheep] |
Hmm,I thought about this after I dropped my 999.I really fancied the look of the Eric Bostrom Parts Unlimited bike. Its sooo differant to the Fila and Marlboro stuff. The Fila bikes look too tarty,IMHO,and the Marlboro GP paintwork should stay where it is,i.e on the GP bike! In the end I just did a temporary spray job and waited till the panels and stuff I wanted appeared on these boards and Ebay. Stick to standard mate. |
David have u2u ref std panel |
BLACK |
MONSTERMOB!! |
Go for black! I considered the monstermob look but thought it was a bit ott. I've got a 749dark and just stuck some number boards on, attracts loads of attention cause its not red/yellow. tricky. |
It's decided. Back to as new - standard 999R Now the track day kit..............that's a different matter!!!! |
For the trackday kit paint it to match your new leathers, Black & white with a Beige sandy tinge last time I saw them. |
