Track day - licence problem I've been offered a ticket for the Track Attack at Cadwell on the 16th. Only problem is that I can't find my driving licence for love nor money. Looks like I've managed to lose the thing somehow, so am gonna need to apply for a new one with all the associated nausea of getting photo's signed etc. Question is, will the track day organisor allow me to participate without my licence? I think it's No Limits, and if so I did the last DSC Cadwell track day with them earlier this year, so are they likely to still have the details of my licence? Second question is, why do they need to see the licence? Surely a track is classed as a private road for the purposes of licencing, can't belive it's for the track operators benefit because they allow unlicenced youngsters to race on track. Will never get my new licence through in time, and as the bike is likely to be going to it's new home in the next few weeks, this is probably the last chance I'll get to ride her on track. And before you all shout out, YES, the new owner has graciously allowed me to do this one last run on my beloved. |
Yeti - the rules in the bumph I received from No Limits were very specific on this point. No licence - no trackday. I can only hope that you and the organisers can come to some informal (probably non-publicised) arrangement. Good luck. Ruth - you've gone too far this time! Stealing the man's driving licence! :o |
Oh dear. When we signed people in at Cadwell for TA2 earlier this year, there was a lady from the circuit checking licences, which was something that had not been done at Mallory. I believe it is the circuit operator that requires sight of a licence, not the trackday organiser, probably something to do with insurance. One of the guys - never did find out his name - duly produced his licence, only for the lady to point out that he had no motorcycle entitlement, despite having ridden on the road for 30+ years:( He wasn't allowed out on track, though fortunately his son used his bike instead. The good news is, however, that the Cadwell people were prepared to ring DVLA for those people who had forgotten their licences and to take the DVLA's word. So you should be OK, but if I were you, I'd ring Cadwell circuit and explain the circumstances and make sure that they will do the same for you. Hope this helps. |
Would TA2 be the last time you had your licence John? Maybe its in the caravan? |
A current driving licence is a circuit requirement-nothing to do with No Limits, but as Lizzie stated they were prepared to phone DVLC for people at TA2. I should call them and check. John |
Been advised by Mark at NL that circuit will phone DVLC on my behalf. Cadwell was the last time I saw licence, but no sign anywhere. Have subsequently sold caravan but fairly certain licence not in that, and new owners didn't spot it. No choice, just gonna have to bite the bullet and get one of them that new fangled photo licences. Shame, I rather liked my little red booklet. |
John, If you had a photocard licence (the small credit sized jobby, with a separate piece of paper for all/any offences) then you can get one within a couple of days. Let me know if you need the contact details. If you had the older style paper licence then yes, it may take longer Let me know if I can help. Gc |
If you phone this number 0870 240 0009 between 8.00am and 8.30pm Monday to Friday or 8.00am to 5.30pm on Saturday. Have your credit/debit card ready you can order one and have it 48hrs later. I needed mine for a hire car on holiday, the flight was on a Friday and I realised I lost my licence on the Monday before. A panic ensued, my wife found this number and by Thursday (as promised) a new licence was delivered to my house. Phew!!!:D |
Twas the old paper type, so looks like I'm stuffed |
To confirm - it's the track that wants to see your licence, not the operator. Not all tracks ask for it, ie Mallory don't. Cadwell will call DVLC for you - get there early so you can be all sorted so that the call is the only thing you have left to do or you may miss a session. I sent off my paper licence to DVLC last year and had it back in three days. Do it today and you could be sorted! WeeJohnyB |
Thanx 4 that WJB, problem is I don't have my paper licence. It was last seen at Track Attack 2 in May! Have you got it???? |
