My Little Accident!

Hi, just thought I'd let you all know that my big, beautiful 749S is no more.

Coming home from the Ponderosa on Aug 1st a car pulled out from a layby on the left to do a U-turn in front of me.

Got back from hospital yesterday with two broken arms and damage to the neck and shoulder. The bike doesn't look too good either! Must be something in the air up here!!!

My old M900 has now been promoted to No. 1 bike again but I won't be match fit for the Rockingham trackday - I'll have to wait until next year for my debut!

Husband Phil is doing an excellent job as a full time nurse - thank you darling.

Hope to see some of you soon.

Regards, Gill Crofts xxx

Very very sorry to hear about that Gill, hope your recovery is quick and without problems.
The Congleton meeting just wasn't the same without G & P.

Shame about the bike too, but that can be replaced.
If you or Phil want any help with anything you know where we all are.

Best wishes and get well soon.
Steve.:(

BDG 12-Aug-2004 15:24

Oh Gill

So sorry to hear about that, wondered why you weren't at the meet last week.

get well soon.

Hope the car driver's being prosecuted, or preferably electrocuted.:flame:

all the best

Shaun

Just a thought, look on the bright side you won't have to worry about the 749 stalling problem you had anymore. I'm sure that comment will get me a big kick in the nether region next time i see you :alien:

Loz 12-Aug-2004 22:43

As a fellow victim of an incomprehensible u-turning idiot, may I offer my sympathy and best wishes for your recovery, Gill. And I certainly hope you're suitably compensated.
And I hope you wrote off the idiot's car like I did, too!
(Hope that doesn't sound petty!)

Gill, I have never met you but hope you get well soon.
Remember-bikes are replaceable, bones mend, and with your spirit you will be back soon-and maybe I will make the Mega Meet next year-if it doesn't clash with the racing-again!

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Get well soon Gill.
Good on yer Phil.

From my own experience, write down every last tiny little detail of every phone call/letter. You'll appreciate it a couple of months down the line. Best of luck and a speedy recovery.

Gill 13-Aug-2004 16:34

Phil’s “little nurse” outfit matches his beautiful blue eyes.

Thanks for all the advice – don’t know what will happen next. I’m just taking one day at a time for now.

Cheers everyone…

Hi Gill
very sorry to see this on the site hope things mend quickly, please make sure you get a realy good sol it makes all the difference.
years ago a mate had an identical accident and because there was no other witnesses the driver swore in court that he didnt undertake a uturn and that my mate was trying to overtake at speed as they do when he was turning right.
luckily for a change the police traffic investigation proved he was too far away from the said junction.

Gill 15-Aug-2004 12:35

Thanks for that, hope your mate is ok now. In my case there were no junctions, the car driver must have taken a wrong turn at the roundabout, pulled into a layby then decided to uturn back again.

Don’t know what to do about solicitors yet. I’m with Ducati Insurance and they have recommended Keystone Legal Benefits who have already been in touch. The bike is at a local garage awaiting inspection.

I’ve never made a claim before so don’t know what to expect - all I need at the moment is more morphine and lots of sleep!

:)

Hi Gill
your going to have to be really patient and make as much fuss about your injuries as the car drivers insurance will want to cop out every way they can.
they will also find if they can witnesses that will say you where riding to fast/to close etc
can your husband take pictures of the bike from all angles and if at all possible the car so you can show the impact zone on the car, anything and everything will help your case as unfortunately bikers have a very bad rep at the moment and in court you will be the only biker out of 40 odd people.
write down everthing you can remember at the time and before the accident weather traffic volume etc and dont change your statement at all unless you gave it in the hospital under stress if the car drivers insurace think youve changed your statement there jump on it.
the time this all takes depends on the car driver admitting fault before it goes to court even so they will drag there heels to make you accept a lower payout be patient and go for gold lost pay taxis husband off work to look after you etc write it all down.
ps when i said years ago it was back when my mate had an RD400 and i had GS550 23 years i think
good luck.
