mono to biposto seat conversion tried a search on this but didn't come up with anything:puzzled: anyone done a mono to bip conversion? what do you need apart from sub frame and seat unit? is there much work?? |
2-up on a 999R - that should improve your wheelies!!! |
:D its a great bike for a bit of mono wheel action! 2 up will help! getting it fettled with a 57mm full system too so it won't be far behind my old gix1000 in the wheelie stakes!:frog::lol: |

Apparently it works no problem but costs a fortune. It just so happens that someone in USA has a complete brand new set up for sale. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tego ry=35603 |
I know somebody that migjht have the parts, but If they put them for sale on this sit they will probably get abused. He had some of the parts acouple of weeks ago when he had a fire damaged 999 for sale on Ebay |

interesting, that would do the trick! bit worried about getting it shipped over though:puzzled: |
I do a bit of buying off Dan, he is very reliable and has even offered to sort out US only Ebay items for me in the past. Some times the bits come through his mate in Peterborough. |
You may have to swap the rear shock due to the mono's softer spring, and ground clearance problems |
Be careful , I don't think the lightweight forged wheels fitted to the R are strong enough for 2-up riding , check first :puzzled: The subframe / seat swap is a relatively easy job , 2-3 hours I would say  |
Its a doddle to change the subframes. The whole job should'nt take more than an hour max.The exhaust and most of the wiring stays where it is and there is only a few bolts to undo. First you remove the seat unit by removing the two bolts underneath and the two on the side of the frame.Gently pull the seat unit up at the back to release it from its rubber mounting. The tank is bolted to the seat with a 17mm bolt. You should be able to get at it by propping the rear of the tank up.I use a bit of 4x2.The tank can stay where it is and the seat can be removed. Unclip the wiring connector on the side of the subframe and remove the exhaust can fixing bolts.(4x5mm Allens?,cant remember) Remove the 4 subframe bolts and it should come away from the frame.Fit the bip stuff in reverse procedure. The seat pads are all the same,so all you need is the bip seat unit and subframe. The pillion seat is locked to the subframe,so you may need a lock key,not sure if the finger under the cable trick works on these bikes. Marksduc748 who posts on this board was breaking a 749 and may have some bits you need. As mentioned above, you may need to change the shock as the Ohlins is reputed to be on the soft side, and check if the lightweight wheels are up to the job. |
Chillo, you have a couple of U2Us |
i reckon the wheels should be ok, i only weigh 12.5st and if i'm gonna take a honey on the back she will have to observe the strict supermodel weight limit of no more than 7.5st:D:smug::P:lol: [Edited on 13-8-2004 by chillo] |
