nitrated forks Thinking of 'projects' over the winter (bloomin' rain!!) and am going to have the forks looked at, change the springs, oil, possible re valve etc. Can you get the stancions nitrated? If so, where and how much? Can't really afford to buy ohlins (otherwise I would snap up pedros:() but like the look. Is it just cosmetic or are ther benefits?? cheers |
Nitrided forks supposedly just have less friction. How much difference you'd notice is debatable. I'd say not a lot and probably not worth the expense, unless you just want the look of course. |
Looked into getting it done on my standard Showas a few months back. Northern company whose name I can't remember quoted me £250, so that wasn't a goer. If you're set on it, cheaper to buy a 2nd hand pair and flog your own to offset the price. |
Think there are some nitrided Showas on Ebay also a set of Ohlins !!! |
thought it might be pricey.....so go on, humour me, how much £ can I expect to get for a set of standard showa forks? [Edited on 17-8-2004 by bradders] |

They go for anywhere between £80 - £140 depending on condition and quality of photos. I've been watching for months as I want a pair of nitrided ones for my SS. A pair with ohlins internals went for £350 t'other day :o I spoke to one of the suspension houses a few weeks ago (can't remeber which at the mo) that reckoned on about £80 for both legs to be nitrided while the forks were apart for a service and new seals. It's guaranteed to be one of those things that if you find out who actually does it, they'll do it for next to bugger-all. Try these guys: http://www.tecvac.com/Coatings/TiN.asp Good luck, Ali |
cheers Ali, appreciated. |
There's also a pair in the market section from a few days back at £150, look not bad even though they are described as a little tatty. http://217.199.188.40/xmb/viewthread.php?tid=11279 |
dukess - yeah, saw those but not sure if they are an improvement or whether I would rather trust my own and have the work done (no offence Dude:)). Cheers anyway, bradders |
K-Tech are listing TiN fork tubes for the Showa forks. £128.50+vat. You could replace yours and then sell your originals to get a few £'s back???? Worth a call? 01530 810625 |
Bradders, I'm after Mark's (Dude's) forks for the upper parts rather than the fork stanchions - fancy going halves on them? |

thanks Nelly, mind of info, I love this club! I'll give em a call and I can weigh this up against sharing the spoils with Antony. bradders |
Nelly is that £151 each or a pair, if its each then thats £302 for a pair which is only £23 less than I want for the set of Nitrided Forks I have complete with 65mm fitting callipers when I get the callipers back from DJTera |
Pedro had his old Tin showa's from his 996 anodised in gold and the bottom coloured to match Ohlins. £150.00 it cost, they looked good but he still went out and bought the real thing. |
Nah, TiN coating is passe. You want carbon fibre stanchions! Them being used in MotoGP now.:P |
