748R Tyres Need some help please... Have had my 748R for about 6 weeks and the rear tyre is knackered (down the middle - edges are like new!) I am running on Dragon Evo's F&R but wonder whether there is something out there that is better? I don't do track days, or at least haven't yet, do about 3-5,000 per annum and am less worried about how they last than how they perform. Any suggestions out there, and does anyone know some one in the Cambridge area that my imacualte, unmarked Marchesini's can be entrusted to? Cheers :burn: |
diablo's or diablo corsa if you want more grip. |
I would echo Dickie's choice of Diablo's. Standard ones work great for me on the road on a 996 and lots of other people have raved about them as well. Prefer them to Dragon Evo's i've had before (but that was on a st4s, different bike altogether though) |

I'm with the Diablo camp. Running the standard compounds on my 748 and they're great. Loads of confidence and very predictable. I switched to a 70 front section and seems to have been a move in the right direction. |
Depends on if you ride in all weathers as to your choice between dragons / corsa's |

if you plan to do mostly road work possibly in the wet go for the standard diablo's. if however you are only going out in the dry and plan to chuck in even a couple of trackdays go for the corsa's dont know how good you are but you probably wont exploit the grip of either but the corsa will give you bags more confidence imho. |

Rennsports I have used Rennsports for the last 2 years and would recommend em. Wonderful on Track Days and have lasted well on road on my 748R. :eureka: |
Just bought a pair from Busters, £165 delivered to my door, but I then found out that BFM would have done them for £157, can`t complain, most places inc tyreman was £220. Chris.:roll: |
Just got a quote from Tyreman of £164.50 + £10 delivery which seems pretty keen. Who are BFM? |
Tyreman has suggested changing the front profile to a 70 from a 65. What impact does this have (bearing in mind I only ride on the road) and is it worth doing? :) |

i,ve been on diablo`s(not corsa)for last 3 track days plus about 1500 miles now they r knackered,not one bad word about them.They even let me know time was up by introducing a slight weave at about 110 with knee down! So today i,ve had a pair of michelin pilot power put on?:lol: |

Cheers Dickie, sorry to labour the point, but... Assuming that the profile affects the cross sectional (is that a real word?) appearance, does a higher profile make the tyre more pointed then? Have had the 748 for about 6 weeks and haven't really felt that it was particularly quick on the steering, especially from side to side. |

Dickieducati, I think youve got a bit mixed up with how changing profiles affects the bike if you go from a 60 to a 65 or 70 profile tyre of the same make/type it will in actuall fact slow the turn in down, because in effect you are raising the front ride height |
cant argue with that, i thought raising the profile would speed up turn in full stop. didnt think about ride height being an issue. just goes to show how much i know..................... fcuk all! at least someone on here knows what they're talking about. i'll get my coat. apologies |
I've done 5 track days on my Diablo Corsas, and I must say: They are really great. The confidence in the front (from stock 60 to 70-profile) is mega (to use a foreign word). No more tucking sensations. Also, while most of the others tyres looked ready for the bin, mine has just a bit of orange texture. However, I would recommend keeping a fairly low pressure on the track, more or less regardless of track temperature 31psi front and 29psi rear was optimal for me. Well, they are so great I've just gotten some Rennsports :puzzled: Well I only ride track days anyway so why not go as close to slicks as I can... |
Please accept apologies, I did try and research before asking the question and would really appreciate some clarity on the front profile sizes. I currenlty have super corsa's which support a 70 front and before I read this thread probaly would of happily stuck with it but... is there any real benefit on 60 or 65? No intended track or wet use. Thanks in advance and seasons greetings to all. |
I've had my 748s for three months, and will probably be switching the front to a 70 profile when I next change. I agree that the steering isn't that quick side to side, but that tucking/tipping in sensation was a surprise initially whcih everyone says is due to the 60 section... |

Is it because you've lengthened the wheel base very slightly and altered the rake? So in that case turn in would be quicker with a 60, but there is less tread area so when cranked over we are running right on the edge of the tyre area, but would this matter on the road, when its rare that you get a bike that far over? |
I had a 748sp with pirellis as standard which were dead good. After some years of sticking with them I found they wer'nt so good. This could have been down to suspension settling down or maybe the compound getting harder over the years. Pirelli and Metzeller are the same tyre, made by the same tyre company, just with different tread designs. I did find after some lower gearing that my 748 used to wheelspin in the wet. I eventually changed to Dunlops, its a matter of choice really. |
