Insurance...How is that possible?

I'm not complaining but...my first years insurance is up for renewal...
I have asked to be quoted for both bikes Duke and Mito on the same policy...
Most quotes are about £400-£500 quid cheaper than last year...
I know that no claims has a lot to do with it...but surely not THAT MUCH...

How can they be allowed to rip you off in your first year like that?

NBs996 20-Aug-2004 02:02

Guilty until proven innocent lisa!
And first years no claims can often be about 35%
If you want some real entertainment.... try insuring a spec'd up 996 and a fireblade on the same policy and see how many brokers just larf at you!!!

rockhopper 20-Aug-2004 09:42

Wait till your as old as Mort then the insurance company start paying you to go out riding...:D:D

baylissboy 20-Aug-2004 09:51

NBs996
Spec'd up 996 & fireblade,that's nothing!!
:D
Try a pair of spec'd up Dukes,a Foggy rep & a Bayliss rep,on the same policy, with an agreed value on each!! Now that is entertaining!! Can you imagine how much fun i had talking to a very nice(but totally clueless)insurance broker about that one!!:bouncy:
KB
Insurance is just one big rip-off,i thought everyone knew that!!:bouncy:
PS One years no claims, are you sure?I take it we're not mentioning Cadwell!!

NBs996 20-Aug-2004 10:13

bb - "pair of spec'd up dukes" no thanks, I have enough trouble as it is!!!

I don't blame the insurance co's tho, I blame the ****s that make the fraudulant claims, and the not very nice people who take bikes which aren't theirs

Dukerob 20-Aug-2004 14:16

cadwell.....great weather I seem to remember.....:eureka:

rockhopper 20-Aug-2004 14:47

Yep, great weather for lying on the grass and gazing at the clouds...

rcgbob44 20-Aug-2004 22:33

Lisa
Have you tried all the usual companies, I insure the Jota and the 998 for about £450 fully comp, mind you I spose its cos I`m an old fart.:puzzled:

kwikbitch 20-Aug-2004 22:41

I didn't do bad...had a quote from stacks of companies...
the lowest fully comp was £622 for both the Duke and the Mito, all have a £200 excess, as opposed to £1100 for just the Duke last year!

GET THIS!...£266, third Party, fire and theft for both bikes AND health expenses and Legal cover, from MCE! £200 excess for the Ducati and £100 for the Mito:o:o:o

Third Party fire and theft for both bikes would have cost me £619 last year.
IT'S A GODDAMN JOKE!:flame:

bradders 20-Aug-2004 23:20

was that your first year riding?? I had the same when I came back after a 5 year lay off - 916 £1300 tpft!! hence went for 748, altho still £650 GULP!

BUT, now I have 996sps, and its about £600 fully comp, or £350 TPFT, thats c1/4 of the first year....me thinks if I stop riding on the road for a time again, I'll insure a ratbag just to keep the history/ncb going!

kwikbitch 21-Aug-2004 18:43

Yeah...I am told it's because I'm a woman and 'sposed to be safer...GULP!... Cough, cough, cough!
But that much bradders? When you've the experience too!
Mind you I've had the same with the coupe I bought.

Been on a fleet policy for god knows how long...that was bad enough. I'm just glad the bike insurance has come down so much...I would have had to make a choice...Bike Or car?
Would have been a difficult decision...
putting a sidecar on the bike for the kids!!!!

TP 21-Aug-2004 18:53

The best quote I could get for my insurance a year ago was £1400 (with 6 years NCB but no garage - £1050 with a garage). I renewed today with 7 years NCB (with a garage now) for £689.

It's a big p*sstake!!

DJ Tera 22-Aug-2004 22:04

I have 4 years NCB and am paying 1300 FC :(

Still its not garaged, and they know about my forks rims and pipes :smug:

psychlist 23-Aug-2004 14:01

Not surprisingly.........

My premium has gone up, was 300'ish last year and the best I've got so far is 550 (comp) through "(Premium) Riders Choice", lost all my NCB but being older than CK helps :P

kwikbitch 23-Aug-2004 14:14

I think that's not bad, Mr P considering...Give it a year and It will be back to normal...fingers crossed:saint:

psychlist 23-Aug-2004 15:18

You aint wrong Lisa...bout 60% of what I expected. Good on yer Ronnie!

His words were "next year it'll drop like a brick"!!
I think he was talking about my insurance premium :o :puzzled: :o

MJS 23-Aug-2004 17:46

Well, after a few calls I've renewed my multi-bike policy. Cracking quote from the Premium Choice lot, but in the end I stayed with The Policy Shop when they matched everything I'd been offered... and I get a £20 bonus for everyone I recommend to them... so come on....!

Cheers
Martin
