from USA..... Aint it exciting! Ive been watching a package on its way. Its been through Memphis, uhh huh hu! and now into stanstead. Arrived for clearance, then released for delivery! Does that mean no charges from the vat man? please please.... |
Left their ramp now, hre before Mon 1200hrs. If required or added, How do you pay tax in this situation? Do they contact you by phone, email? or do you have to pay when it arrives at your door? |
My bits are now in Leicester from stanstead.... shame really drove by my front door!!!! |
Usually pay when delivered in my experience. You might be lucky but the best way to avaiod the taxes is to get the sender to describe the goods as "replacement parts supplied under warranty". On another note we've just heard that one of the thieving scumbags who robbed my Mum twice earlier this year went down for 7 years. Guess that means 18 months in real terms but at least the piece of trash is off the streets for a while. Nicked any untaxed Pikeys lately ?? |
Well at least the police caught them and prosecuted Paul, I remember your post when the crime first hapened. I Surrey they just get a slap wrist and let them go. hope your Mum got over it ok. |
So andyb what did you buy ? I was out in Seattle last week and visited one of only 4 Ducati dealers I the States. and the prices were no diferent to here for spare parts. ?? |
tell you on Monday.................. |
Can't wait ?? :bouncy::bouncy: |
Not trying to illegally avoid paying import duty and tax on an overseas purchase are you? :o |
AndyB - it's a bit harsh mate but for my sins I have to fix every man and his dogs computer and install all sorts of crap. Part of the job really. Did you watch the rugby, my keyboard is flooded with tears .. |
ooh hello, shes woken up! Bloody right i am, i pay more than enough! |
Lol! You really do have a chip on your shoulder, don't you! |
So if someone posted on here the question "Who paying too much tax?" You wouldnt contribute? Yeah right, youd be banging on again about "cash cameras" illegal immigrants, etc etc. However, it does seem to me that you prefer to change the direction of your attack towards me, rather than the topic, at any opportunity, but get all insultive when its given back. Hmm chip? :D (add that and its ok) |
I pay my tax because it's the law. Don't pay tax and you break the law. Simple. What was it you said? "I don't make the laws" wasn't it? Seems very hypocritical to me that you say people should take their punishment when they break the law by speeding, but you're quite happy to break the law by not paying tax and import duty. One law for them... |

If only I had known, my mate in Seattle recently picked up a ride-height adjuster off Ebay for me, as a 955SP3 owner and regular visitor to Ducati Seattle maybe we could have sorted getting it back here. Still he's bound to visit before to long. |
Antonyeeee, for the sake of the site, im not going to get in a personal slanging match with you. If you want to continue to get off at me then thats fine, but try to contribute to the thread topic instead. and dont preach Morals at me either, stones, glass houses etc. |
 |
Blimey! |
Plenty of american parts dealers are much cheaper than over here until you add the taxes. Think it runs at about 21.5% all in now. Think its 17.5% VAT plus about 4% import duty? Could be wrong though. Motowheels are very good over there and have dealt with a few times, even sent me new seals for the lutch slave cylinder when they started to leak after a month on the bike. They have a sales section where theres quite a few deals to be had too. www.motowheels.com |
I've been caught for import tax a week or so after I received the goods. I got a nice letter demanding payment!!! If I remember (and I'm not sure I do too well) - it was the courier that was chasing me as they had to cover the charge - DHL?????. So you'll need to keep everything crossed for a while!!! Good luck Tim:frog: |

Yeah, HMC&E are very wise to the excellent exchange rate at the moment and are stopping just about every package coming into the country, especially from the states, to check for import duty & VAT being payable. From what I've heard off others, the couriers do pay the charge and then bill it back to the receiver of the package, along with a "handling" fee which is about 20 quid or something I think. By the time you've added VAT plus import duty plus the extra handling costs it sometimes makes it more expensive than buying here! |
Always get US parcels sent via USPS (The US postal service). Although you still run the risk of getting hammered by customs the chances of being caught are greatly reduced. When using a commercial courier like UPS or DHL it's in their interest to pay the customs charges on your behalf 'cos they can then charge you an inflated "admin fee", ie more profit for them... Our Post Office also charges an admin fee for paying customs when delivering USPS packages but in comparison it's peanuts. |
Andy I have had a carbon tank from the USA. Customs & Excise wouldn't allow it to be delivered until I had payed the tax, import duty and handling charge. I had got the sender to write on the parcel, Warrantee repair item. Vat man still wanted reciepts etc showing when purchased/cost inc delivery. |
Saved about 300 quid on fees when I got my engine upgrade kit from the states :sing: |
