Timing Belts? Will Peugeot belts fit?? I've heard that Peugeot timing belts will fit my 1997, 748 BIP, if this IS this case does anyone have the correct Peugeot part numbers? Coz if they are the same belt they are ££££s cheaper!!!!! Or have I been told wrong? Many thanks Damon |
And the reason they are cheaper is ???? They are probably designed and rated to run at lower revs, follow a much less convoluted route when fitted with far greater radii around the pullies, they don't have to cope with the torque loadings caused by more rapid changes in engine speed found on bike engines. My view - don't do it. Then again, it's only my view...... |
Why not try some ribbed rubber bands from the London Rubber Company, they sell them in a pack of three so every third cam belt change is free! Ducati parts, nuff said. Have a nice day:smug: |
LMAO are you for real mate :o I doubt they will be kevlar for a start, and for an even bigger start I cant see them being much cheaper than 25-30 quid a pair, is it really worth risking thousands of pounds for the sake of saving a few bob  |
I think you`ll find the pitch on a Ducati belt is unique(they patented it to stop pattern belts being produced; correct me if I`m wrong KeefyB)made by Bates if my memory serves me correct. You`ll have to stick to cheap peugeot oil filters for now:D |
Gates i think it is!! Use the real thing if only for piece of mind. |
No it's not Peugot belts. Those are crap. You want Volvo belts! |
For god sake use the real thing it's a DUCATI Nothing but the best for the best. |
he he he! I bet you wish you never asked now  I have to agree its not as if you have to change it every time you go out on it. so use the real thing. |
Leave me out of this DJ |
If you really want to save some money i can sell you some second hand belts. Only done 5000 miles or so. £15 each. |
I think you'll also find a couple of Peugeot 205 silencers work out a lot cheaper than Termi's. :P |
Damo4444 Are you for real or were you having a laugh?? Perhaps you're not ready to own a Duke!! These bikes are not just machines, they are far more than that & as such they should be looked after properly, which doesn't mean trying to save £ 2.50 on a VERY important service item!! |
Belts are around the £20 for the pukka items, and i get mine changed every 6k or 9 months which ever comes sooner. I have seen some of my old belts after 6k and another 6k i would be shocked if they lasted to the ducati approved 12000 or 2 years. For the sake of a few quid and a couple of hours of skinned knuckles (not mine but my mechanic's) as the old saying goes Prevention is better (and cheaper ) than cure. |
Can you get four valve belts for £20 Paul? I though 2 valve ones were about that price. |
thats what my man gets them for, although he does buy in bulk with the mileage i do. for my 900ss they were around £14 i think, i get my SS back this week so will know for sure then |
I've just changed the belts on my 888. The pukka items were £60 a pair. |
