Oil filter leak

So yesterday my 750ss decided to leak oil out over the back tyre, not fun. I traced it this morning to the oil filter. Filter was lock wired on so shouldn’t have come loose. The oil warning light did not come on when this happened. The bike has done about 100 miles since oil and filter change. I have removed the oil filter cleaned all the mating surfaces but it is still leaking. When I took the old filter out when I did the oil change the threaded part came out of the alloy casing but seemed ok and went back in. Anyone any thoughts on how to rectify this problem? Thanks.

Hello,

I tend to follow unusual stuff up these days as I'm rebuilding my 1993 900ss.

I've never heard of this before, but the parts manual shows a double ended, threaded adapter - number 067049910

I've not heard of one of these coming loose, maybe the DesmoDue boys have, I'll contact Kev next.

WIll keep you posted.

Thanks for the reply. Never had anything like this happen when I was doing DD, nor did I here of anyone else. We only saw one engine blow up and that was at Brands Hatch, that’s one of my reasons for being a bit surprised by this. The engines seem pretty bullet proof.

Certainly isn't a common problem, I've removed the double threaded boss before to fit a oil deplector plate for an oil cooler but never had any problems

I have seen a few comments recently where some owners don't seem happy with the sealing of the K&N oil filters but as I don't use them I can't really comment

It might be worth a google search

Hi Kev
Thanks for the reply. Mine isn’t a K&N but I suppose it could be the same issue as it does have a welded nut for removal. Talking to a guy in the pub last night he recons it could be a blocked crank case breather.

It could be the breather the later injected bikes have a Reed valve but not the earlier 750 that I know of.
Hopefully not worn bores/rings causing blow by and pressurising the crankcases

It’s done 29,000 miles and been stood for 3 years. Started straight away on same battery after a recharge. I guess a lot of sediment in the engine maybe caused the problem.
