750ss belt change?

Hi all. New to forum. Thinking of buying a 2001 750ss for 3k, 27000 miles. Does this sound about right? There was another with 24000 on clock for 2.5k but it had gone when I rang up.This one - don't know if it's had new belts. How much of a faff to change? I'm not too bad with the spanners, last total rebuild was a big block Guzzi engine so I know my way around a motor but not much experience with Ducs.

What do you guys think?

Cheers

J.

Welcome!

Belt changes on a 2v are very easy in my opinion!

There are loads of videos on youtube showing you how to do it.

The main thing is to obviously set the tension correctly once you've done the actual belt change (and also checked the condition of the bearings, etc) so you might want to get someone who has done it before to watch over and check that you're doing it right, then you will know it's ok.

I always use the 5mm allen key method as it's pretty simple and difficult to get wrong!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks Antonye, some good stuff out there....liked the tip re. tensioning the belts with 5 & 6 mm allen keys....so doesn't look too bad. Lots of things to read up on! Is there a Haynes for this bike?

Cheers again

I use the 5 & 6 mm as it's definitely the easiest way!

With the 2v engines it's only one cam so really easy to do it by yourself without really needing any kind of cam alignment/holder tool.

Just don't forget to check the condition of the bearings on the rollers once you've taken the belts off as it's often overlooked by home mechanics.

There is a Haynes manual, it covers the older (carb) SS as well as the newer FI ones.
I have one and it is really handy.
