Seat catch coming undone

The seat catch keeps coming undone on my 748 Bip, especially while i am riding, don't notice it but when i park up there it is again unlocked. A bit unnerving.

Do i need to replace the catch or what?

Maybe you just need to adjust the cable a bit to allow the actual catch to travel futher into the groove in the latching pin

Just needs adjusting by the sound of it ?:eureka:

Just wait a while and the lock will fall out like everyone else's has.

Problem solved :D

I took your advice and had a fiddle under the seat and fixed it. The offending item was my recently purchased disk lock, which is stored where the tools should be. The disk lock is slightly too big to fit under the seat and had been putting just enough pressure on the seat to pop the catch (I think fingers crossed) Will test ride tomorrow.

Damn, still poping open.

Does this happen to anybody else?

skidlids 07-Sep-2004 19:41

Doesn't happen to me, it should be quite a positive lock as a metal plate engages with the groove in the latch pin, if it goes far enough in the seat should not be able to pop open with out pulling on the release cable usually by using the key or in the case of my trackbike by pulling on the end of the cable.

I had another idea, I think the cable may be too slack, allowing the lock to jump about. I will adjust and test ride, again.

The test riding bit is the best bit, well thats what I tell the missus anyway.

Had the same problem, but with a carbon single seat unit fitted to my bip.

I found that the bracket that holds the peg that goes into the lock wasn't lined up correctly, so with a little help from a file, the bracket was modified so that it lined up correctly, since then I’ve had no problems
