Powder coating wheels

Hello peeps,

I might have asked this before but here goes anyway. I am planning on getting the wheels of my 748 powder coated over the winter. I want to know if anyone can recommend a decent firm who could do this for me?

I would also be interested in getting the wheels painted but I am thinking that the powder coating will be more durable.

So anyone who has had their wheels done in or around the London area let us know. Also what did ya pay?;)

Cheers,

DC.

"Foremost Coatings" are a company at copthorne near gatwick. sorry don't have number to hand but a search on web will find them. Seen some of their work and will be getting them to do my frame etc over the winter. If memory serve me right , i think it was about £40 / wheel.

I read in MCN a couple of years ago about a firm who make the coating for non-stick frying pans who had started coating bike wheels using the same stuff. Apparantly grease/ dirt/ oil etc can't adhere to the surface making the wheels much easier to keep clean. I haven't tried them myself but it sounds like it makes sense.

The firm was called something like Polymer Coatings and charged about 40 a wheel. If I can find the number Ill edit this reply.

Good luck

Mark O'Connor.

PS. Anyone reading this looking for a 748s read my post.

My only concern with powder coating would be that if you get a chip in it then the coating will tend to lift and water etc could get underneath and corrode the wheel without you noticing.

Sorry not in your area but I have used OIF (Oxford Industrial Finishers) for about 10 years now on both Frames and wheels. The powder coating has proved very durable even on the race wheels where tyres are regularly changed, although great care is taken as I do them myself.
