SS 1000 SD SL Just curious - It can't be too long now before a new style SS arrives? The current one has been around for 8 years now, and although I am a fan of the SS range there is nothing to tempt me to swap my 900 for. I know the 1000 is a better bike (having ridden a MultiStrada I know how good the engine is) but the styling is the same and the only real difference is the engine which isn't enough of a change to justify the cost of change (for me anyway). What would tempt me would be a restyled version in Superlight or SPS spec - lightweight Marchesini wheels, single seat, 100 bhp and about 165 kgs. What do other SS owners think - would you change for something like this or maybe move over to the 749/999 range? :) |
At least they look a bit more the part. As I said on another thread (re the NEC) We were looking at that 749R: the God-awful weld in the front of the tank, which looked like it'd been done by a 1st-year apprentice, with a tacky seam an inch or so below it: not good enough on a motorcycle that expensive. And WTF is that horrible colour they're making them these days. had me wondering if it was the lights in the hall, or my eyesight. Looked more like "red oxide" than anything else! Have to say the best-built bike on the stand looked to be the 1000DS (Supersport), easily. [Edited on 17-11-2004 by moto748] |
My ideal Duc would be similar to the new bimota, take the 1000ds engine out to about 1080, free breathing heads, larger oil cooler, all packaged in the lightest possible frame. Bodywork would have to be a minimal with a monster(ish) tail, lightweight wheels, option of ohlins both ends. 110bhp / 155kg, £6500 without ohlins, £7500 with. I'll be press-ganging Mr Minoli for a promise tomorrow! :) Cheers, Ali |
