long distance
 

Hi all,out for a ride one day and meet a chap 65+ who has just returned from a trip to southern spain on a 748,man and machine in perfect condition.
Has anyone travelled further without pilot or machine falling apart,it seems i only have to pop out for a packet of fags and somthing on the bike goes t*ts up.

crikey! dont think I would like to go that far on mine cos its bad enough going to the lakes for a couple of hours and even then feel like I have slipped a disc. so maybe when I am 65 I will be used to it too :lol:

funny thing distance, when I first get on mine, feel ok and pretty comfy no matter how far til I stop, then very uncomfy for the rest of the ride???

You need to have the "Eye of the Tiger" to go the distance.

Done Assen for the WSB clocking over 1000 miles in a week at some silly rate of knots and find it no worse than my R6 was for distance.

Not built for comfort but not too bad.

Regards reliability, I have only ever had to put oil in the 996 or the 998 when on one of these annual forays.

Went to wdw2002, 2800 miles over 2 days there and 1.1/2 back.
No probs with the bike. As for me. lost my last set of ear plugs by the Swiss border and was as deaf has a mute for a couple of days afterwards.
My collar size had gone up by about 2 sizes and so had my arms:lol:

eye of the tiger??? well it does effect my eye just not sure if we are on about the same one! :D

Been using Ducati's for numerous continental thrashs for the last 5 years with no probs at all (touch wood:D). Furthest i've been is to the Sahara desert.

Admittedly most of these miles have been on ST4/ST4s and a Multistrada but have also done just under 2000 miles in a week (avoiding motorways) on a 996SPS around France and Spain. That was actually far better than i expected other than for cramped legs at the end of a days riding. The bike is fitted with helibars which definately make it more comfortable for me.

Top man if he's still doing that at 65+. Probably helps keep him young and bloody good luck to him.

Been to WDW twice and French Pyrenees with a recce into Spain without any problems either for me or the bike (now touching wood with several parts of the anatomy!).

The 996 is absolutely fine, so long as you are moving around in the saddle and enjoying your riding - so that means 130+ on the autostradas then :devil:

I'm over 6' 2" and the wrong side of the half century and the only time I've suffered was a long trip up the M40 in February - had to be lifted off the bike at the end of that one!:rolleye:

Customer of mine has a 748SPS with, what must be now, over 60000kms on it.
He does Europe regularly and clocks the odd 5k up at a time!!
Last year I believe he did Magny Cours WSB after a jaunt around Germany, Italy, France etc.
