Web cam help

I've been trying to have web cam conversations with my dad. We are both on broadband and are running MSN 7. Pictures are fine but audio from him to me is so broken up thats its useless. He can hear me relativley okay though.

Anyone got any ideas?

Are you both running the same version of MSN? what operating system are you both running, what are the specs of the machines? What else is running on your machine in the background? Have you got the latest audio drivers? Have you tried re-running the audio wizard for msn?

Quite a few things there, but that's a few off the top of my head

We are both running the beta version of MSN 7, both running Windows XP Home on lap tops that are less than 12 months old.
I'm only running the usual anti virus stuff in the back ground, normally i wouldnt be doing anyhting else with the PC while i'm playing on the net!
Latest audio drivers? Hmm, i need to look at that. Windows update is turned on so i assumed that would sort it out?

Possibly, it depends on MS really and the Sound card manufacturer, better off going to the manufacturer's site

Paul, I have used MS NetMeeting with some success, but I too have some problems with sound breaking up now and again.

Common problems described on Netmeeting website are mostly sound card related (half v full duplex) and firewall. Have you tried temporarily switching your firewall off to see if it clears the sound problem? Make sure you switch it back on again soon afterwards - I get attempts to attack my computer (mainly via S.Korea) several times a day!

I will be at my computer from about 14:30 to 16:30 today - I will U2U you my IP address and you can try connecting with me if you wish - at least that way, you would know if the problem was at your end or your Dad's end.

Cheers, Chris.

Installed the latest drivers for the sound system, no change.
Turned the firewall off, no change

ran the audio/video set up wizard, no change.

I suppose i must have a full duplex sound card? This is a lap top so its not that easy to work out whats what in device manager.
