Err techy question for clever IT bods

I'm just doing a qoute for storing back up tapes for a customer, i can ask the customer the question but don't want to appear completely stupid (no comments please, the truth always hurts).

What exactly are AIT, DLT, & SLR tapes?
How big are they? Talking about 48, 12 & 6 of each respectively.
Do they have any special storage requirements or just the standard, dry, dustfree, fireproof type environment?

Any other information that you might deem relevant would be usefull as well.

Could this be a guest1, JPM, Rattler field?

Thanks folks.:puzzled:

Why not ask the customer the question, after all you are quoting to "store" the things, not learn how to use them.

Regardless of their reply, if they are back-up tapes you gonna need to look after them, and not just secure em. That will mean dust and damp resistant storage. You will probably find sealing them in poly bags with some dessicant and keeping the bags in boxes would work. Size wise, I doubt they would be bigger than 18 inch dia reels by maybe an inch wide.

Yeti,

i don't mind asking questions but wouldn't mind a bit of info before i ask. They are not for long term storage, they are back up tapes to be kept off the customers site for disaster recovery that will go backwards and forwards each day/week.

Size wise i don't think they'll be huge, more curious if they are casette/video size as our current fire resistant safe is full and the current tapes come in sealed bags so we don't know what size, type and quantities of tapes we have at present; so that doesn't help me much.
