Palm OS applications running on PC?? Any of you techies out there know of any software that will allow me to run an application written for the Palm OS under WindowsXP?? I can get an application which will allow me to calculate what jets the TZ needs from the pressure/temp/humidity readings my weather station gives-but-it runs on a palm. Since I already have a laptop, Psion Series 5MX, and a PocketPC palmpilot I am a bit reluctant to buy yet another handheld device. John |

I'm sure some of the other techies on here should have knowledge on other applications that could do the job. I put a couple of pda apps on my daughters login and they worked kind-of OK, but did tend to lock up from time to time. |
Thanks for the reply Alan, I haven't purchased the software yet, was kind of hoping there may be a converter or synthesiser out there somewhere which would let Palm apps run under windows. The software is only $50 so not expensive but I would be chucking the money away if I can't get it to run under windows. John |
John You could look at the following: http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/tools/emulator/ http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/9658 http://depts.washington.edu/hswork/w.../emulator.html If you do a Google search on "Palm Emulators" you'll get about 350k hits! Hope this helps Andrew |
John I just had a look at the emulator on the Palmos site - I can get a passsable image of a Palm PDA on the PC screen, and all the basic functions seem to work (setting date and time, Notes, Calculator etc). I reckon it might do what you want (it's free to try out, anyway). The only problem might be getting the application in a suitable format. I've never purchased a programme for a PDA - do they come on a CD or something? I think the file type is .prc. Hope this helps Andrew |
