Holes in airbox lid I read an article on a south london based garages site (I forget the namebut its a big duc place), they got a significant increase in BHP by cutting holes in the *back* of the airbox lid and keeping the snorkles at the front. I emailed them a couple of times to ask for a photo but never got a reply. Has anyone tried this mod? |
It is probably Sigma Performance that you're talking about. They did a bit of work on an ST4 which is Neil Spaldings own bike. You can read about it HERE On an ST, and quite a lot of other Dukes, the airbox is quite restricted. If you look at a Ducati Performance airbox lid, it's not even a lid...it's just a frame that keeps the airfilter clipped into place. Taking the top off the lid gives loads more airbox volume and smooths out the torque curve, but as you'll read, Sigma decided not to leave the lid completely open so that the air filter didn't get soaked and to cut down on induction noise. Apparently they got another 4 bhp, but remember that's on a four valve ST4, you may not see the same gains on a two valve ST2. |
Cut a 'letterbox' in the back of the lid on the ST4S, yes it does give more midrange, and also a lovely airbox roar from under the tank. John |
Would this work on any Model?? |

Providing you match the fuel jetting correctly yes it will work, easier on fuel injected bikes as they don't have to draw fuel up through the jets, and with Mikuni Reverse flow main jets altering the air intake and hence the depression above the needle jet can play havoc with your mixture |
This iswhat I did to mine as well as removing the rubber trumpets in the front of the airbox....... Andy |
it works for a 900ssie especially when combined with a new chip and some DP pipes and a gearing change - magic! |
has anyone done it to a ST2? |
Oooops :) Should have been more specific...... Yes, the mods I was on about were on an ST2... Andy |

How did you get the tank back on with that steel rule in the way? What was the perfomance benefit gained by fitting the rule? Is it a ducati performamce rule? I can see I have a lot to learn about this performance tuning lark.... :sing: |
