BMW SG1200

Yesterday i took out a BMW GS1200 spent a couple of hours pooteling around roads too damp for serious evaluation.
couple of things struck me as weird coming straight off a SL,the really high and wide bars the remote feeling of the front wheel no moments at all and performed faultlesly but just remote?
the heated grips where great the indicator switches naff"".
also Im 6/1 and just managed to get both feet on the floor, anyone with a short inside leg is going to struggle.
anyone got one yet.

no, but they do a short-persons version which would suit most. I rode the earlier versions and I think they all feel vague at the front - but GOD dont they leeeaaannnnn!

After the soft forks of a Duke, Telelever will seem remote ... but it certainly isn't. The BMW set up actually allows you to carry a lot of corner speed ....

Re the switches ... I really like them (I have a GS ADV). Journos complain about no standard, and having to use right hand to turn off indicators. Fortunately I am a slightly higher life form, and have no problem in multitasking with such an easy thing ....

What the Pieman said, Re. switches and suspension.

I have a R1100S as well as the 888. As for keeping the licence, pah! You'd be amazed what you get away with riding some 1923, tractor technology. I can't think of another bike I'd want for the big mile, 'cross Europe hols, cept maybe the new GS when the bugs are ironed out. My local dealer is excellent, and Mondial assiatance is awsome.

£0.02 from me

Last decent bike they built was the Rensport!

Yup, you cetainly know what you are talking about ......

Ever ridden a GS?

Hmm, Rennsport. Looks a bit like an early Duke with the cylinders pointing the wrong way.

That's interesting stuff. I have an R1150RT for commuting and whilst uninspiring and frankly dull it will certainly leeeeaan and is very sure footed. The front end is brilliant for it's task. I am considering a test ride on the 1200 GS but am putting it off 'cos I know I will want one, they are supposed to be fantastic. The dealer support is also quite unlike anything else in the bike world (or car world for that matter).
