98db drive-by? What's that in real money? Anyone know roughly the relationship between drive-by and static testing? I don't want to turn up at Donny on 24th to find #74 is too noisy! :o |
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but there is a noise meter not far off before the start line and that feeds back to the council office and monitored at the track. Your get black flagged and told to get a static noise test after you have made an attempt to lower you noise. The static is just the same as when you get noise tested at ACU test days ( gezzer with a stck X length away from your exaust ) Fail the static and they will let you make more attempts to get it down to 98db. But get caught going past the driveby again too noisy and they will probally send you packing. Kev will know but I'm sure they have a hand held way of doing a driveby test as well. I do know from experiece they spot check all day so dont try and pop the baffels out after dinner. Fecking mad when you hear a 747 come right over you to land next to the track. Craig |

If you are too noisy, miles and I will buy your test day off you!! |
Taken from the following link http://www.donington-park.co.uk/expe...l-information/ conform to the Donington Park noise standard. This is 98dba measured at drive-by. loosely a static test of 101dba is equivalent. But be aware that our normal static tests are held at around 5/8 of the rev range where as passing a drive by meter you could be at Full throttle. I may have to get my sound meter out and try and check my bike or Kev's or Dallas's 98dB Trackday at Donington I Did one of these in 2001 the day before the Clubmans Championship event. I was out in the Sound of Thunder (on my TL1000S) and Supermono group and Almost every session I was in was red flagged due to riders constantly triggering the drive by meter on the start finish straight, mainly the Supermono riders. After the 2nd session that was red flagged we were advised to take it easy coming out of Goddards and if necessary roll off as we passed under the gantry where the Noise Meter was then located, sadly several riders ignored this advice and I doubt if I ever managed to string more than 4 laps together. The last time DD was at Assen it was pretty much a similar story, make do baffles were littering the track and as a consequence the bikes that had lost them triggered the drive by Noise meter and again the Red flage came out. My bike currently measures 102 dB in a Static test so I'll be fitting my baffle for the test day. |
I think my 996 will make it ok with baffels but as the cans are in need of a repack I'm going to be taking my road termis as well as I cant afford to waste the money or day's pratice. I do know they wont give us ANY grace being racers on the Fri. Craig |
101 static is what Dave Mabutt reckons as well. Nice try Simon, but I think I'll be fine with my repacked can and my db killer fitted. I'll find out when I test it this weekend :D |

find out where the sound meter is and keep the other side of the track .. noise levels arw measured exponentially so a couple of meters can make a big difference or as kev says just throttle off a bit |
