Changing coolant
 

I've got to drain the coolant to replave the temperature sender, how easy is this? is it just a case of removing the drain plug and filling up with new coolant, any idea what antifreeze i should use?

Very easy if you have the Haynes manual!

I used a 50/50 mix of decent (read: expensive) coolant to water (actually battery top-up water) when I had to top mine up.

As a tip, you'll also need to take the tank off, or at least lift it slightly, to get the cap off the coolant resevoir.

I know one the guys said you need to drain the coolant but if the snesor is near the top of the system (sorry im not well up on the 4 valve bikes) thne that much should come out, just keep your finger over the hole.

Tho you sahould swap your coolant every 2 years anyway it prob worth doing.

Not done the actual draining myself yet so can't help on that.

As far as I know you're not meant to use 'antifreeze' as you would in cars in a bike engine.

Guess the glycol makeup must be incompatible with bike engines. Castrol do a coolant that is not diluted (ie. just put in neat)

To drain the system completely, first remove the drain plug from the side of the water pump cover and then remove the drain plug from the bottom of the coolent outlet on the side of the horizontal cylinder. That will empty the system completely.

When refilling use a solution of de-ionised water (cheaply available from Halfords etc) and Shell Advance Coolant or Glycoshell at 35-40%. ie 6 parts water to 4 parts Shell Advance. That info is straight from Ducati.
