Frame paint
 

Just some advice or opinions on frame paint needed am already thinkin of next winters project- now ive finished this years!! what i plan to do is strip the 600SS down to the bare bones and spray the frame(its looking tatty) i'd like to keep the original color (a light gold color- dont know what it is called) what is the best finish to do? stove enamalled( not sure what this is but heard people speak about it when talking bike rebuilds) spray with hammerite and lacquer or plastic coated ? or are there any other alternatives worth considering?

powder coat seams to be the way to go after you have it blasted.
some say 2pac paint.
at the end of the day you have to choose.
just had mine powdered and its a top job. search for the big build if you want to see some pic's.
but hey you have plenty of time to think about it

i'm not sure what that gold finish is ! if it's the same as on the early 916 i'ts pretty dam good , and i'ts far better than the silver finish on later bikes!

it would be worth finding out tho !

Shazzam might have the answer , but i think it is some sort of anodizing from the factory;)

Mav- bike was built in 96 but first registered late 97 if thats any help? the only other color ive seen the SS frames are white!!!!! or resprayed black.

if you can find an auto paint supplier who supply spray cans to match a colour code, Berger 7011 gold is an exact match.
it is meant to be used with a clear lacquer top coat but if you leave off the clear coat it dries with a flat semi-matt finish just like the original.

I would echo keefer's comments - powder-coating will come out much smoother and offer better protection going forward.

The powder-coating itself is not expensive (as long as you go for a fairly generic colour). It's usually the labour involved in taking everything else off. Since you are doing that anyway, this looks to be the way forward.
