will i burn my butt?

can i replace the four bolts holding the subframe to the rest of the bike with stainless I have replaced all other [ non stress areas] with stainless and these would just finish her off or am i likely to drop through and burn my arse on the rear tyre?:bouncy:D

I thought stainless was ok for stress points as well. ?
its alloy that isn't

stephen hall 09-Feb-2005 15:44

stainless

I was told that stainless is softer than the bolts [alloy] that the bike was fitted with on constrution and if you are going to use stainless then use a smeer of copper grese and dont over tighten but i aint no engineer so any advise would be much appreciated:puzzled::puzzled:

Don't worry about it, the tensile and shear load capabilities of stainless steel and the plated ones are close enough for it not to be a concern. They will have used a factor of safety of at least 5:1 at the design stage, the subframe would probably bend before the bolts failed. (unless it's a Suzuki - then it will just snap off!!!)
