Hi

I hope someone out there can help me, i bought a Ducati 999 in December 2002, and it has recently developed a misfire horizontal cylinder when cold. Hope you can HELP ME

take the plug cap off the front cylinder and clean the socket with a little WD40and look inside the receptical for the plug for green oxidization on the pins .
check that the oil cooler fairing hasnt chafed the cable were it runs over the edge of the cylinder head ,
lastly check the plug if the abouve fails

on my old 2003 bike i got my dealer to replace both spark plug caps/coils under garantee for the new type fitted to the last 2004 bikes and the 2005 models , easly recognisable by the long lead coming from the plug cap , i had no end of problems with front cylinder misfire

Hi

Thanks for the advise, i have had coils changed, and am going to try draining the fuel tank as prone to water ingress, the problem only shows up when the weather is cold. I will keep you updated. Thanks again

Hi

Drained fuel tank - no water, not sure what to try next, can anyone else help.

If it was a fuel problem as you are suggesting water, it would misfire on both cylinders! You are saying the front cyl is misfiring right?
Is it a constant misfire of now and then?
If so when does it do it?

You need to inspect all the electrical high tension stuff first like plug, cap lead etc.

This sounds just like the problem encountered by quite a few guys that race the 999. It's also a known issue to Ducati UK. The cure is to replace the stock "all in one" plug cap/coils with the appropriate replacement parts from the 749R.

Hope that helps, Neil.

Thanks for advice Neil all the coils have been replaced with 749R, i have also transposed them, and the misfire is still on the No1 cylinder in the cold weather on initial start. I have tried lots and lots of other things and still faulty.

I'm Colin my wife is Sue, we have only just gone on the internet, still trying to find our way around, not set up my e.mail address yet so all replies to Sue Reade please.
