Rear cylinder cutting out?

Hi All,

Those of you following the DD forum may have noticed that I bizarrely managed to put diesel in my 600SS on Saturday, unsurprisingly it ran a little smokey and rough.

Having cleaned the tank out pretty well and run the bike for 20 mins with clean fuel it's now running ok at high revs. The problem is it's cutting out on the rear cylinder at low revs. I've checked the relay connections next to the coils and all seems ok. It sort of cuts out for two seconds then cuts back in for a second, then cuts back out again....

Could this be a fuel problem related to my diesel disaster, or is it more likely to be electrical?

Any help always appreciated!

Cheers,

Ali

carb-icing?

JPM 14-Feb-2005 18:42

Did you have the problem before the "diesel incident" ?

Did clean and drain the carbs Vacume fuel pump????

600s rarley suffer from carb icing.

Definitely not carb icing. The rear cylinder cuts out completely then cuts back in like it's losing its spark, but the HT lead shows a nice fat spark when the bike's running.

Haven't cleaned the carbs yet (no bleedin time!) but will do so after this weekend. Was just wondering if this is a common problem with a well known source (coil/relay/etc)?

JP: Not exactly but it wasn't really smooth on starting either.

Cheers,

Ali

How about water in the float bowl ? I've had water in a carb in the past causing intermittent cutting out as a gob of water got sucked into a jet.

Cheers guys. Will clean the float bowls this evening and see what happens. :)

Ali, Have you replaced the plugs since running on a diesel premix?
