stupid question alert!!
 

after a discussion today, me reliving yet another failed home-tech job, it would seem that the rear nut holding the sprocket carrier on my 916 may be 'left handed thread'

To stop me making a complete balls up, is this right? In other words, to undo the nut I should be pushing anti clockwise as I look at the nut from the left hand side....:puzzled:

(altho, with all the heaving the other way its probably never gonna come off now!)

its a normal thread and as with all other normal threads you undo it anti clockwise :D;):D

That nut is not left hand thread. Its a normal anti clockwise to undo!

If you think about the direction its turning.......for a left hand thread to be useful, ie the natural direction of the revolution keeping it tight....It would nee to be on the other side ie the wheel nut!! I believe some of the race bikes have it this direction.

RIGHT HAND thread but a bas**d to undo so use a half inch drive and a three foot long bar, and a mate standing on the back brake and laying over the seat should do it.
Be careful not to slip off the nut.
We ground off the face of the socket to get it to sit on the nut all the way, and if it still doesn’t budge then heat up the inside of the wheel spindle with a blow torch, not to much mind.

im in the process of fitting new renthal sprockets front and rear. My error has been firstly to remove rear sets, chain,clutch. with no one around to help I may as well try removing the nut with the cheeks of my a**e. That nut is damn tight.:puzzled:

Paul, If you struggle to get it off, I've got a hefty breaker bar and an old triumph fork slider you can borrow when needed.

Properly torqued up I only need the breaker bar now though.

Long tubular pole required along with Heavy B*****r sitting on bike for that nut.

andyb, I stood there thinking adam you dumb a**. tried all sorts to un do it, no bl**dy chance. Second tome round will be a different story. I just wasnt thinking ahead.
