Eproms Having just replaced my eprom after fitting Termis I realised that as I have access to a prom programmer and blank eproms, If anybody wanted an eprom copying then for a few quid to cover the cost of the blank prom and p&p I could oblige. |
Colin, It's worth bearing in mind that a few of the more expensive eproms (and eeproms) have copy protection in them, so you may not be able to read the full chip with the programmer and copy it successfully. Might be worth doing a test on your "old" chip to see if it is successful or not - your programmer should have a checksum test in it to compare the original and copy. |
Tried it with the original eprom fitted in my bike and was able to copy and verify ok. |
Have a question you might be able to hlep with - have been offered some carbon termi's for my 748, but not with the new chip - seller reckons the chip doesnt really need changing over as 748's run quite rich anyway ??? So... does it make THAT much difference, is it going to cause any problems running the termis on the original chip ? is the chip change just an extra to give more power etc.... or is it vital whwn you swap the cans. thanks mike |
I was also told that I did not need to change the chip when fitting 50mm Termis to my 996s. I bought a chip with them and so I have changed it anyway, but yet to give it a try on the road. I'm sure someone will be along who knows the answer better then me. |
It depends on the size of the cans. If they are 45mm then they are a straight swap for standard cans and won't need a new chip. If they are larger than this, not only will you need a new intermediate piece (the short double-piece behind the right-hand footpeg) to make the cans and main pipes fit together, but you'll also need to replace the chip. Chips are £28 from your local dealer. How much does it cost to replace an engine if it runs too lean and ends up holing a piston? I know what I'd rather spend my money on! Really? Is that correct? The part about not needing a new chip for open 45mm termis? I got a replacement chip from JHP for my 45mm termis when i swapped the original cans. Was this not necessary?!?!:o |
I have 748s with 50mm ti-termis and was told by my dealer i coluld ride it with out changing the chip, might not run so well but do no damage. He also said the DP chips were better than the JHP one I got:D You also do not need the 45-50mm mid-section to fit 50mm cans to a 748s:D [Edited on 23-2-2005 by Lee1980] |

Ducati don't do an open chip for 45mm, so they assume it is not necessary! |

Are you really sure about that? I have a 748S with 50mm carbon Termis and they certainly don't fit the standard link section - I have to change the ******* thing every year for the MOT! |
