Broken Push rod---Again !!
 

its lasted about 150 miles,

spotted some oil on the inside of fairing so I investigated and surprise surprise another broken clutch push rod,

I did not replace the bearing in the cltch plate last time and will do that this time, but i cant see anything wrong with it, it runs freely and is not dry. is there any other known probabale cause,

I understand that some owners have also had to replace the clutch slave cylinder or recondition it, whats that all about, as mine is not leeking and appears to be working ok. however im wondering if this
is the end thats the cause.


any thoughts :(

yes it was anew ducati push rod, broke upon the oring nearest the clutch, exactly the same place as he last one

Very strange, that. Are there any unusual marks on it? Any discolouration?

no discolouration or blueing at all, little darker grey on litle piece between bearing and push rod small oring in this piece looks a little worn, is this bit worth changing, it seems to grip inner beraing and rod quite tightly, as i understand it should do ??

got new bearing today but need push rod, as ashford not got one in stock, tut tut, puting back together thurs after trip to pro twins for rest of bits, any guidance appeaceated,

pro twins say this can sometimes down to hard starts, but i dont put mine through this, theyve no other ideas.

Bizare. Trust Ducati!

As you have allready replaced the rod and its failed again I cant help thinking that something is up with the clutch or the thrust bearing.

Does the lever feel ok, is it particulary heavy, tthe clutch should be quite lighti f a bit wooden feeling. Does it have the full travel is it coming right back to the bar with no resistance?

I thin it woud be a good idea to strip the clutch down and check the pressure plate is not binding and the bearing is ok and twisting the rod.

clutch feels fine even with a broken push rod, ive got another 996 and it feels exactly the same.

well ive fitted a new one, & the bearing, on consultation with pro twins they viewed my old rod and noticed that although there were no marks wher it had been spinning or discolouration the rod had twisted where it had spun up and then gripped; looks like a drill bit down the shaft, gotta advise anyone with this problem to always change the bearing.
