Boo Ho !

MY poor Mk! Golf GTI Failed its Mot today , the first time since i have owned it (8 years )
Pretty much my own fault as its been sitting around for a year and a half since my boy was born

Mk1 Golf GTI 1983 (limited edition last of the Mk1's) & what did it faill on, uneven rear brakes 10% over the limit ,might have something to do with the loose handbrake then :(

Ignore this reply I forgot your mot is different to the mainland uk mot. I will leave the post up in case it helps anyone else

The mot testers handook lists the reason for rejection on rear footbrakes as
1, little or no effort on any wheel clearly indicating that the brake is not working properly.
2, that the overall effiecency is below 50% of the vehicle wieght

rear handbrakes
1, little or no effort recorded indicating clearly that that handbrake is not working on that wheel
2, the overall handbrake effort is below 16% of the vehicle weight (on vehicles with dual circuit braking systems 25% on vehicles with single circuit systems

the brake balance allowance of 25% is applicable to the front wheels only.

can you u2u me the effort recorded as in most cases unless the overall effort on the foot or handbrake is below the allowance rear brake imbalance is and advisory point not a fail point
