fueling question for all you petrol heads out there. My question is this, a simple one. I have been trying to get our original 1961 3.8 E-type roadster up and running this weekend, but it has been stood in our garage for some years now without any attention. I've got it running etc, and most items seem fine, but the last of the original fuel in the tank has gone, and it just does'nt like unleaded etc. Where can I get decent lead replacement fuel in the guildford area. And I mean decent , not this thinned down stuff at 99.9% of fuel stations sell. I want to keep it as original as possible, but will I need to get it converted to proper green stuff, or is there another option. any help would be appreciated. thanks robin |

Robin, you have FAR too many toys that make me jealous! The e-type was the car that my first car was styled after (Datsun 260Z) and I've always been a fan. Having said that, I will probably buy a 260Z in the next year or so in Oz and have a man I know work on it in his spare time over the next few years so when I eventually go home it will be one awesome beastie! Sorry I can't help you with your fuel, but I'm going to put a 2UZ-FE engine in mine. (Toyota/Lexus 4.3L quad cam alloy V8 ;) ) |
Did I mention the Sprintex twin screw supercharger that bolts straight on AND fits under the bonnet in the 260Z engine bay :D |
See if you can get hold of some avgas its about 150octane & mix 25 to 1,alot of the classic racers use it. |

REDSPS I still but leaded 4 star fuel for my Jota. Under EEC agreements the government has to allow for the production of umpteen million litres of this fuel each year to allow classic vehicle to continue to be run/used. The company, and only company, that makes it is Called Bayford Thrust. Do a search on Google and they will list all the outlets/garages that sell it but be warned its well over £1 per litre. Have a nice day. Bob.G |
Sorry in my haste that should read "I still get" etc etc etc |
