Finding SS Bits and Pieces I've found that in my searches around the web hard to find good value Ducati parts that almost everything around is for the 748/916/996/998 range of bikes. I don't usually find very much SS bits and pieces. I'm not really sure what it is I want to buy, just a vague urge to spend money on the bike and buy nice things. But when broswing recommended resellers like say Tecmoto, none of it's for my bike ('99 750ss). So firstly, is there a general rule of thumb as to what Ducati sport bike parts will fit my supersport? For example are carbon mudguards or clutch covers interchangeable? Secondly, does anyone know of some good websites with an abundance of supersport parts or even resellers who specialise in the SS line? (Don't say eBay as I spend far to much time there anyway) And thirdly, I'm happy to order parts from say Cornerspeed, but I don't really know what it is I want I'm just interested in seeing what's around and available. I'm not the smallest lad on the block so lots of carbon isn't going to make the world of difference - I probably need a gym to do that. But, what bits and pieces should one look at to make general look and performance improvements? I've already added the obligatory exhausts. Hey Phil I'm in the same boat mate, owning a '98 900ss, i know how awkward it is getting parts. I've had to find out whats interchangeable, and the 750ss and the 900ss are more or less the same bike. I know the front guard are the same, and other small bits. Best thing to do mate is go on www.ducati.com and download the spare parts for both models (e.g. 750ss & 748) and check the part numbers on what your after. I hunted around high a low for 'things' on my bike... and kept on coming back to one place... spareshack.com Basicalyy see anything you want, and ask the guy there, Stuart, and he'll get it in, and usually at a better price! I even saw a brake disc I liked the look of, and Stuart became the UK Distributer to get them in!!! Can sing their praises enough.... so do give him a call (Disclaimer: I have no business interest in Spareshack... just one very satisfied customer for the past year or so!);) |

but at what cost? Does the end product really compare with our 4-valve cousins? Which is preferable, the bog std 4-valver or the modified pretentious 2-valver? I love my SS but I can't afford, and couldn't justify, spending loads of dosh on her when it would cost less to get a 749/999. I'm not knocking it, I really love the sight and sounds of Dukes with the basic air filter, chip and cans mod but need to finds a way of affording it! :) So far all I've done is a DP air filter!! :ninja: |
While I'm inclined to agree with psychlist that spending stupid amounts of money may not be the answer, just because a 748/998 would be cheaper doesn't mean I necessarily want one. For example, I think this looks great but is probably overcapitalised - http://www.elasticbrand.com/ducati/ Still, I bet it's a load of fun, get's some great looks and makes the owner well happy. I think making a few modifications is all part of the fun and learning experience. |
At last 5 guys after my own heart. Do you all own carb versions of the SS? Front fender is interchangable on 748 916 996 998 and ss exept 600ss I think |
Ha ha ... I beg to differ!!!! That is my bike at www.elasticbrand.com/ducati/ The story... Brought it new.. bailed rather than going under a 17.5ton truck... insurance paid out in full, as it was deemed beyond economical repair (which was a laugh, but ultimately to my advantage!)... (£4.5k for the bike + some injury monies for good measure) brought the bike back off the insurance company for... wait for it... £100... got a Superbike front end for £300.... Made all the fairings myself (total £250 including lamps, and paint which I sprayed my self also)... frame check and alignment £250 Total rebuild / customisation cost £900 + £100 for the insurance and lets add in £500 for good measure for bits and bob's... that's £1500 for a bike.. all MoT'd and street legal! Take into acount that the insurance also paid me in full £4.5k which means that they are paying me £3k to ride the thing!... so in summary the bike in question cost me ... Nothing.. Nought.. Zero.. Nil ... Diddley squat !!!!!:devil: Well chuffed!.. so that completely throws your theory out of the window :devil::devil::devil::devil: Maybe I was lucky? Maybe I was unlucky for broken wrists and a smashed bike?
