R model ECU rev limiter

Hi Folks (again),

Well the Spring makeover is complete, and I've finally got the S/R cams installed in my 998.

The cams are part of the DP upgrade kit of 45/50mm pipes, S/R cams and 996R ECU, which are all now installed.

Now the odd thing is this:

The standard strada ECU has a rev limit of 10,000ish.

I ran my bike with 45mm open Termis with the supplied ECU, which gave a rev limit of about 11,200. This high limit was useful at the track. I also ran this ECU with the 45/50mm kit.

The new 996R ECU seems to give a rev limit of about 10,500.

I'm not too upset to loose the higher limit, I guess it may lead to a little improved engine life. But I'm confused as I would have expected the 996R to have a high rev limit.

Also, this morning I've read an old PB test of the 998S (against RSV-R and SP2) and they refer to the 998S having a rev limit of 11,000.

Therefore, the questions are:

1. What is the standard rev limiter on a 996R?
2. Same as above, but for 998S?
3. Is it possible to adjust or change the rev limit?
4. Why on earth do I want the high rev limit? Am I being silly?

Yours,

The (not so) Very Rev Spinoli

PS: To anyone who has also read my query on the wheels - I've been a bad, bad boy. No more pocket money.
