yep its happened to me the old SS broken switch gremlin anybody got a spare one laying around that is currently surplus to requirements to swap for a few beer tokens?

I don't suppose it is the same as a '97 ST2 one is it? I'll dig it out and take a photo if you think it might be.

What has actually happened then? What are you using the self tapper for? Is it the switch itself?

To give you some idea how much these things CAN be the same, a mate of mine has an Aprilia Moto6.5, that really odd Philippe Stark designed thing that no one likes? His front brake light switch broke (tiny microswitch) and his local Aprilia dealer didn't even know what the model was let alone be able to order a spare. It turned out that the spare ST2 one that I had was identical so that was a result!

Is this it?

the switch gear is definately different to the SS on the outside -- but it is the actual switch has snapped off (the grey bit on yours)so i drilled into the remaining part that is inside the switchgear, inserted the self tapper to replace the broken button,it is functional tho
i know what you are saying about bits being the same just cos the outside of the switchgear looks different cosmetically it could be exactly the same components inside it and even maybe wired up the same!!
i could take the things apart to see and risk all the little springs and ball bearings and contacts flying out all over the place only to find that they are different! if i get desparate in a few weeks time i'll get back in touch-- many thanks for the offer HW it is appreciated -if i get time this week i'll pop into me local dealer and blag a look at the two wiring diagrams side by side to see if the switches are wired up the same-- would the bars be the same diameter? i'll find out many thanks

You mentioned about the MOT .. can't imagine it would be an issue, their schedule will state that the indicator should work, not that it is not aloowed to have a self tapping screw in it. Tell him it's a custom feature, like the bits of tools etc that the chop builders use for footpegs etc! If that fails to impress, tell him it was intended as an improvement because your mod is stronger than the original plastic bit?

Cheers
Henry

If you need one for the mot you can borrow mine off the racebike. Don't think I'll be needing indicators on the track - although I may change my mind about this after the first race!

It's only sitting in a box at the moment so let me know if you need it and I'll post it out. Use it then return it by post, refitting your custom bling parts :D

monstermob 998 05-Apr-2005 17:04

kind offer antonye hope fully i'll find one by the end of the week -i will let you know and take you up on the offer----if you send me your switches i can return them all blinged up mate!!!! free of charge of course:D

i believe there are some honda switches that are identical but dont know which models- any idea???
