Re Castle Combe and the noise...

I've spoken to new era's technical guy and its just possible we may be in for a bit of a surprise.
As we know they have a strict noise rule at Castle and there have been bikes fail there even on standard cans.

This is what he said :

"105 dB(a) is ok for racing but is the absolute limit which the bike will have to pass at Castle Combe before it goes out. (100% of the bikes are noise tested there, generally only a sample at other circuits) The problem can be that 105 cans are ok when new but some of the absorbent material is lost with time and gains carbon from excess fuel, so the noise level creeps up."

I'm going to get my bike tested at Cadwells meeting seeing as i have 105db Sils but they are not brand new. Subject to that test i'll have to put in plans to take other cans - but then how can we ensure we are all going to pass when some road legal ones dont pass either ?
Also if we put restricted cans on - how we going to get the bikes running ok?

Advice from those who know please?

A small brown envelope should do the trick ;)

Seen very few race bikes fail or even be tested at Castle Combe race meetings, I have never had mine tested there other than on a trackday and the ones I have seen tested on raceday have been noted for there noise as they cross the start/finish line and there number passed to the Noise testers who grab them when they come off the track.

I'm just hoping the BSB invitational will go ahead at the end of the season, just like it did last year.
One of the problems with the Bike race meetings is the amount of noisey road bikes that pass through the local villages on the way to the circuit, some of them would fail the race noise level checks, so anybody planning on riding down on June 4th on their bikes with Termis etc. fitted please try and keep it quiet when passing through and exiting the villages.

My 916 used to fail at combe on standard cans with an open clutch cover :o

Whats about buying some of those removable baffles just in case peeps...?

I believe trackdays are 98 Db's whereas race meetings are 105. We were all tested last year at CC. Nobody failed to my knowledge including one CB5 with such a smashed up can that there was no padding in it at all, feck it was loud. Plus the Sound of Thunder boys on their 998's with full 60mm cans got through. 105db's is feck off loud, you'd have to have serious kit to fail - even the old boys on their classics passed.

Fun circuit though.

And Kev, I'm praying they'll do another BSB type event - I raced at it last year and being in the same programme as them and sharing the same track/crowd was a feeling I'll never forget. (and I won a race:lol:)

Yes WJB I know you won I was there enjoying the atmosphere and helping my mate out in the Superbike race. I will try and get Dallas to enter it this year and hopefully my mate Simon will not only impress Robby Mac in practice but also in the race, it was a shame he couldn't fill that spot on the 2nd row of the grid.
