How loud Borrowed a sound meter from work this weekend to see how loud the bike is. Had a look round on some of the track websites to see how the testing was done. Got a general idea for the static testing, so the experiment commenced. Fired the bike up help the revs at 7000 and had a look what the meter said.......... 117db tickover was about 98db. |

Neither, I've got the slippon WSB replica can thats on ducati9 |
Doesn't really mean anything without the information about how you measured it. Was the meter set to dBA? What distance and angle did you measure it from? |
went with about 50cm away at a 45 degree angle. Meter was set to db(a). got slightly differnt readings though when selected peak and rms. Im not up on this stuff so dont really understand what im doing, it was just a little fun. |
That seems a bit close, physically close I mean. Do they really do the test less than 2 foot away? Who would have their head that close to a bike exhaust anyway? :D |
117db 'sounds' a bit on the high side... that's gotta be more than a gp bike! Not sure how they test on track days cos I've never seen it done, but I have a copy of the BS test procedure somewhere - if I ever find it I'll post some info. |
I think I read somewhere, for drive-by readings it's measured from about 4 meters side on, whilst the bike is doing 45mph in second gear (so about 3000 revs or something), but don't pay complete attentiont o me, I have been known to talk shite! :D |
can and plate hanger Hi, Think we have similar can and I have seen you have problems with a plate hanger ..... check out my signature and small pic .... my solution. Larger pic in the pictures section ... tidy back end 749 / 999. As for DB, that's about right. I did a track day were other bikes had race cans on etc. I started mine up in the pit's and was stopped before I got on to the track  Still sounds good on the road though :D [Edited on 17-4-2005 by Carbon749] |
I remember when they used to test us at certain tracks when we were racing and it was always hold at 3000revs. That was on a R6 though so dont know if the revs are different for a Vtwin. Would'nt have thought so? |
Try starting it up with no rear box  Now that is loud ! |
