HELP!! 748 Front Brembo Callipers

Has anyone got a set of standard Brembo calipers for a 748?

I've just removed some very naff hoses from my bike installed by the previous owner in order to put some good ones on, only to find Mr Previous used Loctite Retainer or some industrial bonding substance to secure the fitting into the caliper. Alluminium + 1/4" BSP + Loctite= Stipped threads when I removed them!

Why do people with very little engineering knowledge attempt to do mechanical things on bikes!!

If anyone has a set for a very reasonable price please email me: hancym@vodafone.net

MANY THANKS CHAPS!

Hi Hancym,

1 pair standard Brembo calipers from my 998 - 65mm mounting.

Super-dooper condition, about 2.5k miles, no corrosion at all.

You suggest a sensible price,we can dicker a bit if it's too low.

Will cost about £10 to post to you, assuming you're in the UK (I'm in Jersey).

Feel free to phone me on 01534 745873 if you have any Q's.

And the other one.

BTW - brake lines and banjos included.

D you need the crush washers? I've got plenty spare.

I meant to say...mine are 40mm centers on the mountings.

Ta! anyway

Drop me a mail to remind me to take a look around the workshop tomorrow. I think my old ones are in there somewhere after i've changed the forks and calipers for later ones.

Jusy another though. Can anyone tell me of the earlier caliper (40 mm mounting centres and single pin for the pads) will take a banjo bolt.?

I believe they were originaly fitted with rubber hoses that were directly screwed into the caliper housing. They sealed with a taper at the base of the hole. Just wondered if the later Banjo fitted ones were different on the face. In other words, if one removes the rubber hose will a copper compression washer seal OK with a bonjo fitting?

I guess they'd ork Ok. The thread is the sam at 10x1. you may need to "clean" the mating surface up with wet'n'dry so you get a good seal but it should work.
Only other problem could be the length of thread on th ebanjo. It may bottom out. You could get the banjo shortened though

If Nelly can't find his I've got a pair. They've seen better days as they're off an 'M' 748 and been through a couple of winters, but they are fully functional. They have banjos.
£20 + P&P.

All the 40mm calipers I've seen have two holes - one for the brake line and one for the bleed screw.

I bought a pair of 40mm calipers (from a 916 - cost me £41) off ebay to go to a twin setup on the 600ss, and when I fitted them up the bleed nipples were in the wrong holes so I just took them out and swapped them into the other hole.

If you're replacing the calipers just make sure you get ones which will take banjo bolts as they should be universal. I'd recommend BSR Aerotek for lines and bolts as they're top quality items:
