Perhaps i was just unlucky, but bought my 916 from one of the mechanics dad, and the service book was all stamped up as you would expect. changed the belts as a matter of course (being new to ducati and hearing about belts) and found the date marked in paint on the belts from the prior belt change service (2.5 years previous and they looked on thier last legs too) when quized about it they said it must have slipped through the net.
bit worrying when not only was it "one of thier own" bikes and owned by a family member, but more the fact if someone else bought it and expected say another 10k from rather brittle belts with fraying.

having said that, i bought my boss's 900ss from him, and they gave me a copy of all its history and work done with no huffs or grunts and their parts service is A1

but for servicing - wlracing every time for me for my dukes
