My bike goes in for it's service at Pro Twins next week. It will be the first time I have had the bike serviced, and I'm wondering whether they will stamp the Ducati Service Book? If they are not an "official Ducati dealer" can they still complete the coupon in the book?? By the way, the bike is a 2002 model and is well out of warranty by now I'm guessing.

Uhm...dunno about stamping the service book...not much point really if the bike is now well out of warranty by now.

As a buyer, I would be more interested in the receipts from the service and whom it was carried out by.

So do insist on a full breakdown of what has been done (they should do this anyway without being asked) and keep this somewhere safe with the rest of your bike paperwork.

You should be alright with pro-twins though...they have a good rep.

As Harvey says if its out of warranty and the book is bare, not a lot of point.

I would still get them to service it to show you have completed the required service to schedule etc for any future sell on and keep the paperwork as suggested also.

I wasn't sure if it helped resale etc if the book gets a stamp after every service. I know that's what I've done with the service book for my car.

But as you say, it's the receipt and breakdown of work that is of more value now. Ta.

You should still get the service book stamped regardless of who does the work.

On the subject of warranties, a dealer cannot decline a warranty if the servicing has not been carried out by an official dealer if the owner can prove that the servicing has been carried out by a competent mechanic (i.e. qualified motorcycle mechanic). Though most people still stick with a main dealer for all their servicing during warranty.

There've been a couple of trading standards cases on this, I'll try to find the relevant pieces.
