Quick action throttle mod I know a few folks have tried this on their 749/999(Murraymint, you still there mate?). Question is, how are you getting with it? I never even considered one before, but a couple of things are making me question my decision - mainly, Donington Park (and some seriously quick Sunday Morning Blat lads I know). Is the mod any good, usable on the road, etc? Anyone regret it? Where did you get yours and do you recommend it? Thanks for any help here! :puzzled::roll: [Edited on 8-5-2005 by Loz] |
Loz, First thing I did after 30 miles was to swap the throttle assembly, well JHP did, they put the stock 9*6/998 throttle on heavier like I am used to and let turn to full throttle, you soon get used to it. |
Hey Loz, nice to see you on the boards again. ;) I've got the 998 single cable throttle mod done by Pro Twins. It certainly works in terms of achieving full throttle on a single handfull but it does take more twisting force than standard. It makes blipping for downchanges a bit tricky. |
Thanks for the suggestions and info, JP and Rally (you mended yet, mate?). On my mate's Guzzi Le Mans III, I needed two hands to operate the throttle - not so good in the twisties to be sure. Hope the mod for the 999 isn't similar! :D |
You're welcome to have a go on mine and see if you like it. I should have the parts to fix it this week :) The foot is getting there. The third metatarsal is still mending and gets sore but at least I can walk properly now. I'm also back on the Triumph to get to work which saves me huge amounts of time. |
What roughly is the cost of the mod? |
Can't remember... but it wasn't cheap as it involves a couple of hours taking the airbox apart to get to the throttle bodies. "It's not the parts, guv, it's the labour, see?" ;) |

Thanks for the offer, mate! Be seeing around and about soon, no doubt, glad you're mobile again! |
i did mine myself using the parts shown below. the original cable was shortened and the plastic 90 deg bend was cut off. i then used an adjuster from a mountain bike cable ( same size) and the 996 throttle assy i messured the freeplay needed and then attached a new nipple to the cable . bingo job done cost about 40 bucks. the harder question to answer is did it make the bike better...... pros- less hand movment to required to go from closed to fully open cons- i felt the fine feel i had with the throttle when passing the apex was a little lost ,ie it was all or nothing ,i played with the freeplay but made no difference in the end i think you should not listen to me, but try it youreself  |
Nathan, thanks for your info and point of view. Cheers! |
