Speed traps near Calais? I have heard that the French plod are making money from picking on UK drivers / riders as they leave Calais.:flame: Does anyone have experience? Are these fixed camera points or mobile? Where are the buggers?:puzzled: I'm off to Mugello in a few weeks and don't want to start the holiday with a huge fine!:burn: |

I've seen them both near Calais and near the really big tol area coming in and out of Lyon mounting big operations. They tend to set radar up a couple of miles from the peage, take your number than pull you at the peage. Last time i went through there was a line of 20 or 30 cars waiting to be done. The last 20 or 30 miles of any of the Channel ports seem to be happy hunting ground but espacially Calais. Stay lucky. |

The ones I've seen on the way back to Calais involved a small "object" on the hard shoulder near one of the gated emergency vechicle exits and a car parked tucked out of sight. The guy in the car was obviously radioing ahead to the cops at the toll booth. The "object" when you got closer was a small tripod with a little box of top but of course by the time you get close enough to actually make it out as a radar your speed has already been noted. Does anyone know what the situation is these days in France with GPS camera locators? I know that full speed trap dectectors are liable to get you a going over by Monsieur Clouseau and his chums but how about the ones that rely on a camera database? Darren |
we've just got back from le mans and only saw 2 speed traps all weekend although we only went to and fro caen. the bad thing is that their all mobile in france (i beleive ) and that they hide behind tall trees and get you with binocular style radar guns. the good thing is that the passing french motorists flash you from miles away to amke you aware, the french are very aggressive on the roads but will move over a lot quicker than the english to get out of your way. |

Unfortunately they now have Gatsos.... And they're increasing dramatically in number yearly. :sniff::sniff: Darren |
