swarf on my back wheel? anybody got any ideas where its come from, took it for a long ride today, got off n noticed swarf stuck to some of the chain lube on the back wheel(only just done the chain oil thing),wondered if anyone could shed light, nothing feels wrong about the bike when i ride it!?!?! |
It may be the cush drives wearing against the swinging arm!!!! |
Look at your Cush drives make shore their not hitting your swing arm they can come out the back if you have a standard sproket housing :o |
Check also the spacer is in the correct way. I had a tyre fitted and the spacer was put back the wrong way. |
ok chaps, thanks for that, ill check first thing tomorrow |
I had the same problem on my 996 a few years ago. I have tried to search the old board for the thread but its not there, the old board, so from memory. The rear sprocket carrier is held in place by a circlip spacer that sits in a machined groove in the sprocket carrier assembly. With time this circlip wears the recess and allows the sprocket carrier to move which allows the sprocket carrier to chew the eccentric hub away. there is a later eplacement spacer that does away with the circlip jobbie and Ducati know about this but they diod not do a recall but luckily mine was under warranty. If you have caught it early enough your eccentric will still have enmough ali left for you to adjust the chain, if not its a full replacement and the new spacer will be required too. HOpefully though it might just be a cush drive outer sleeve thats backing out of the carrier and you will just need the cushdrives replacing. Either way its lucky you found it before it grabbed the eccentric and locked the rear wheel up whilst riding! Good luck. |
Yep bang on about the cush drives, I had the swarf affair 2 days before the lemans gp this year If you spin back wheel around slowly ,you will see at least one cush drive rubbing on the chain adjusters on the swing arm Luckily JHP had some in stock and bob's ya uncle and all that |
Ive got the later style hub with the spacer (new in box) if you need one BG.. Cheers Nat |
today's the day ill check, hopefully its just the spacer...is it the kind of job you can do yourself? |
natty, ill let you know if i need that part....im starting to be a regular customer!!!haha |
