996 BP Running problems

went out yesterday after being laid up for 3 weeks and it ran like a bag of s***e missfiring throughout the range topped up fuel about 3/4 of a tank even worse went home it died on me
it will fire up but dies off right away had the fuel pump and filter replaced prior to going away and everything was running fine any ideas ?? ta :(:(:(

Sounds like it might be fueling related. Does the fuel pump whir for a few seconds and then shut off, when you turn on the ignition (but not start it)?

yep
whirs away quite happily then stops the tank has also been cleaned out to take out any water floating about

hello mate had similar problem after i high sided 99 996 bip eventually sussed out that the block connector to the computer (ECU) had come loose at one end not creating a full circuit, also had similar problem on CBR 600 and that was voltage regulator.
hope this helps.

weeksy
are you saying you had the fuel pump to bits ?? I was told this wasnt a servicable item and had to be replaced the fault was eventually traced to the throttle potentiometer which was replaced and everything is running fine again no probs with the dealer as the last episode was FOC but maybe I should start fiddling myself could be a bit scary eh !
