Installation file for iTunes 4.7 anybody? Does anybody have a copy of version 4.7 of the file you download from Apple's site to install or update iTunes? Apple have updated iTunes to 4.8 recently and I chose to update to it (thus overwriting my 4.7 install file when I downloaded the new version). Trouble is the install doesn't work, it just comes up with a service manager error. After loads of time spent looking around user forums (because Apples technical support is non-existant) it turns out that the update has errors when installing to XP Pro with Service Pack 2. Now I could rant all day (and probably will) to Apples customer support that they haven't tested their install routine properly on what is a very common Windows platform, and how the fact that their upgrade has wiped out iTunes and left me with a hard disc full of expensive downloads wth nothing to play them on....but... The only thing I can think of is winding back to 4.7! I thought I had the install file for this on my home PC, but I think that the ease of use of 2Mb broadband went to my head and I must have run the file from source rather than saved it disc in order to install iTunes on my home PC. The file is about 15 Mb, but if you have a copy, can you send it to me? |

Unfortunately the link on Tucows leads to 4.8 on Apple.com for me. I've got 4.7.1.30 that I downloaded on 14th Jan 2005. It's giot a file size of 20.8mb. If that one will do I'll upload it to some webspace for you to download. Let me know.. Darren |
Ah - that'll teach me not to check the download link! |

Thanks for your help everybody... Downloaded the previous file (thanks JPM) but the thing still crashes with the same error even though this was the same version that I previously had running perfectly. The 4.7 install lulls you into thinking it's gonna work because it goes way past the previous point at which 4.8 crashes, but then.... Over to Apple then :( |
