Quick techy IT help

A while back an IT techy type botched an op sys upgrade on my laptop. They also screwed up my domain name and network settings.

As a result they wiped out access to my companies intranet from the network adaptor on my laptop's motherboard because they made several unsuccessful attempts to access the intranet, the security software detected this as unauthorised access and barred the MAC address. FOREVER.

They shamefacedly handed me an old Xircom 10/100 PCMIA card and the little dongle that goes with it (the flylead that connects the card to an RJ45 cable) to get me connected again. I've managed to leave the dongle in Chicago.

Not normally a problem because I normally use a wireless link. But...I'm just making sure I've got all my bits and pieces together for a business trip to India, and they don't have wireless.

I've tried PC World and the like, but connecting laptops to the web by cable is old hat now and they only have wireless ones. So...does anybody have a Xircom connector lead sitting around that I could borrow for a week or two? Failing that some other type of PCMIA network adaptor that will enable me to connect to and RJ45 cable? Or any other ideas?

Jools, have a look at Xircoms web-site, they must have plenty of UK outlets, and spares chain. Otherwise try the likes of Scan/Aria/Dabs/E-Buyer for another PC-Card, Xircom are one of the better ones, 3com, etc etc

Jools, considering who you work for I'd be demanding a loan laptop!

You are seriously going to struggle to find a dongle for an ancient card like that. We don't really have any lying around anymore either, we're all wireless or use onboard NIC's.

My best suggestion would be to check your options at somewhere like www.aria.co.uk and buy one off them. Cheap as chips - but use your corporate card!!

And buy me a cool tower case for my PC at home will you, it beeps at me too much :D

It always pay to hold on to at least 2 or 3 of the old bits.
