Daft Question

Could someone confirm what colour the "standard" mirrors on the 996R were? I have seen launch-test photos with what looks like carbon mirrors, but I have heard elsewhere that standard mirrors were red.

Reason for enquiry is that I forgot to remove mirrors before lobbing bike ever so gently down the road at Brands Hatch, and I need to buy some new ones (Spent 10 mins taping mirrors over instead of 2 mins removing them..how stupid is that?)

Dibble 23-Jun-2005 12:06

how mullered are they Ian ???

As they are probably repairable.

The originals definately weren't carbon, in fact I believe they were black, but red ones look much nicer .......

It is only the right - hand one, the retaining allen bolt pulled the threaded section out of the mirror, causing a crack in the casing, plus a nasty bit of gravel rash...maybe I'll just buy a R/H one off flea-bay.

Check how much they are new first (phone your local dealer) as I'm sure they're cheaper than you think.

Even the painted ones are only £45 quid or something each.

Dibble 23-Jun-2005 12:22

aaah, sounds like the original shear bolt was replaced with a normal one as they usually snap quite easily ....

put a "wanted" ad up in "maret place" on here, someones bound to have one hanging around ......

The originals were black I'm pretty sure, but most were swapped or painted red.

Thanks for all the Info. I'll remain with the fetchingly colour-coordinated red ones then!

BDG 23-Jun-2005 12:56

Ian

The originals were most definately PINK.

Sorry that was the daft answer, they were definately BLACK

Black, agree with dibble though.
As for the bolts, if no one has any knocking about then:

is an option.

I think they're only about 2 quid-odd new from a dealer anyway.

It's worth carrying a spare in your tool-kit. If a passing car clips your mirror, 9 times out of ten you can just screw it straight back on.
