Newbie gets his ride!!

hey again everyone!

ive just had such a great day on my dark that i picked up this mornin! Was really really nervous when i first got on it.

Now after doing a coupla hundered miles i feel little better.

2 main things strived to dampen the experience today.

1 it stalled on me, as i pulled onto a round about and i was nearly stuffed from te rear! Oo er :o this happened on two occasions.

2 when pulling away, occasionaly the bike would let out a kind of yelp. Forgive my techincal ignorance, but it was the kind of noise you make if : Open your mouth as wide as it will go, then draw breath as if your attempting to make a noise and thats the kind of sound it made. Couldnt tell if it was the clutch or the suspension or engine? i really dont know. Any ideas?

Has anyone made a succesful modifcation to the side stand to make it easier to get down whlilst still sat on the bike? Im a shorty so have ha to get off the bike then get the stand down, by no means ideal. Plus the stand looks a bit weak.?

Overall though, what a bike! Sound, performance, handling, all seems of the top drawer.

Look forward to hearing from you guys. ;)

fab ...

.. the reason it cuts out is it's been set up too lean at the factory - will be sorted at the first servive - it's a typical testastretta thing :saint:

The noise is the dry clutch. Some do it from day one some don't. Various solutions but it's a chronic condition :)

Congrats on the bike and the best of luck with her. :)

Cut out - either as henners says (with age comes wisdom, so he's probably right!), or you've come from a jap 4 and you're not giving the duke enough right hand at low revs. Dropped mine once for the same reason.

Yelp - dry clutch. I used to have this but it's gone now after new plates.

Cheers for the advice guys, i think i may have a word with the dealer see if it can be looked at all. Its happened a couple of times again today, its seems to do it on the approach to roundabouts only, it musnt like em:puzzled: Its as if it idles a bit too low, but when warm i wasnt expecting to have to use the fast idle.. ah well !

ive come from a jap v twin a v kid at heart :D that didnt stall on me ;)

had another great day out today, but need to get rid of the chicken strip at the edge ;)

As well as the afore mentioned mine occaisionally makes a noise from the air box. Like a short blast of air. Is that the sound you're referring to ao the squeal from the clutch.

I ride mine with the choke on giving just an extra 100 rpm. This stops the cutting out. Which I agree is dangerous as well as embarrassing.

Yep, cutting out will be sorted at first service. Get the 600 miles on it ASAP. With this weather, you've got no excuse! :D

I'd vote for the clutch being the noise you mention. You may be slipping it a bit too much as if you're on a Jap 4?

fab 12-Jul-2005 20:43

ttstu, i think you could be right the sound is more like a sharp intake of air from the airbox, it seems slightly hesitant to get off the mark when it does this, it may be that im slipping the clutch too much ?

The bike already had its first service its now done approx 1500 miles as ive piled a load on it this weekend, so maybe the problem wasnt noticed by the previous owner.

I need to bob back down to the dealer anyway so will ask when i go if there can be any adjustment made that may have been missed from the intial service.

Cheers again guys! :)

Well surprisingly the dealer was still open have just called them, to advise the problem and he advised to bring it down tommorow and he would be able to "richen" it up a little, this sounds like the cure given thats its been mentioned that they are set up to run lean from factory.

Everyone agree thisis the correct way fwd? :D

Funny noise is clutch. Stalling needs throttle body set up. Get the dealer to sort out
