Costs of Desmo Due - Nothing? in comparison

All,

My 748RS decided to implode at the last session at Brands last week.

Current 'worst case quote to repair' is more than DD#10 have invested to date in Desmo Due.

This IS cheap racing!!!! I'm going to stick with it for certain, foreign round or not!

Probably why you don't see many 748RS's in club racing, even a 749R struggles against the latest IL4s from the East in Supersport racing.

Go on then...not to rub salt into the wounds or anything...but what happened, and what is the cost? Did the engine "let go" at full tilt, or was it a more "gentlemany" break-down? Sorry...but I'm just trying to make myself feel better after just ordering all the replacement bodywork, footpegs and levers etc for the DD after my little excursion at Snetterton!

Let go during the final session accelerating out of second last corner before entry to clearways?....

Coasted , then I shut down after hearing the noise, visibly all ok from the outside, belts etc, no oil leaks, no smoke.... but mechanically noisy. slap, slap, slap, slap.

Not the alternator/ flywheel as was suspected, so if the crank, conrod or 'big end' have gone, parts quote is £3000. I'm no mechanic obviously.

These are meant to be replaced every 1000 km when set for full race bike mode....ie rev to 14,000. I run my conservatively tuned to 11,000 changes.

7 trackdays into ownership so probably run more like 2000k on them, still a bit unexpected though!

Oh well, still been worth every penny to date....must now find another 748RS engine?

:sniff::sniff: Oh dear oh dear! Sorry to hear that. Don't suppose you'll easily pick up a used but JUST re-built RS engine on ebay though!!

Good luck mate!

OUCH Chris! Mate, I feel your pain.

Hopefully it will be a bit of a surprise and not sting as much as that. Good luck.

Mileage is always the problem on RS spec bikes, good luck with the rebuild

Try either Jim at Slingshot motorcycles as he picked up a lot of the Ex Stuart Easton bits, or try Alan at AJR, he rebuilt Simon Knowlsons last time it needed new crankcases.

Cheers all,

Surprising what you find when you look around.

I have had two emails and two calls about RS bits and pieces today?

Must think I have money to spend......

Where's the credit card?

Mr bank manager ' I want to do some house decorating!'
