Clutch Noise

Recently got me a 996, complete with all the knocks, rattles and jingles you'd expect from the clutch. But I get a strange sound just as the clutch bites when pulling off. Its a kind of "graunch"? - The clutch/gearbox seems fine, it's just an odd sound. Any ideas?

Clutch needs cleaning out. Take off the cover, undo the six bolts remove all plates and clean/blow out the dust. Reassemble. Chances are it's all fine till the dust builds up again.

Do a search on clutches and you'll find enough posts to fill a weekend...

Welcome. First off, they really do all do this at some stage (just search for other posts on this subject). Second - it could just be full of dust and need a clean out, or thirdly it could be the beginnings of your clutch telling you it's had enough and needs new plates and/or clutch drum. Don't expect more than 10,000 miles from a heavy used dry ducati clutch on a 996.

Hope that helps

My slipper does that all the time.....I thought it was "Normal" 18,000 miles of wheelie abuse might be showing itself now ??
