Fuel Capacity

I have read somewhere that my ST4 has a fuel capacity of 21 litres, which includes 4 in reserve, I can believe that as I nearly always fill it up with 15/16 litres when the fuel light is on and the fuel level indicator is showing one bar. Do I need to flick a tap or switch that I havent noticed to access the reserve or does the bike do it automatically, is it all just one tank and when the last bar disappears i can be sure of another 30 or more miles ?

The total capacity is 21l with a 6l reserve.
There is no fuel tap or reserve switch... you have the gauge/warning lamp to tell you you're on the last 6l and that's it!
The last bar doesn't go away, it just flashes...ask me how I know.......
Luckily that bit of the M5 is downhill & I ran out about half way along the slip road to the services.....
:D

so is it into the reserve with 6 Litres left when the last bar starts flashing or when the yellow light comes on ?

When the light comes on mate. If you really want to know how far you can go once the light comes on-strap a 5 litre can of fuel to the back and try it. There is no other reliable way.

I concur with what the lads have said - I get 35mls max when the fuel light comes on and the last bar is flashing. However, a word re riding up n over the alps:

On my bike when you are on the last two bars and you are ducking and diving into mountain hairpin bends etc they tend to disappear and last fuel bar starts flashing and you think oh hell I'm nearly out of fuel and not a petrol station insight. False - but unnerving when you first experience it. Just bring the bike up level for a while and a true reading is revealed. :burn:
